“You’ve got me falling sweetheart,” I don’t give her the time to react, before pressing my lips to hers.
I had to remember the advice Granny had given me.
No fear, just chance.
CHAPTERTWENTY-SIX
Kyra
“What are you drinking?”Gretchen asks as I take the seat next to hers and look around the table.
“Rum and Coke,” I’m not much of a drinker, and I don’t want to get drunk. Last time I lost an entire evening fast. It still feels weird to me that I’m now a part of this crowd. Most nights prior to Garrett I sat home with Gran and watched movies or read. I rarely went anywhere other than the bakery.
Yet, here I am at Mercy with those I can now say are my friends.
“Colt says that Sugarland is almost ready to reopen.” Gretchen sips on her fruity looking drink.
“Yeah, I think Gran is intending to be back up and running by this next Monday. Which I’m thankful for because baking in our kitchen isn’t easy when you have several orders to fill.”
She smiles.
“Hello beautiful ladies,” Julian says, taking the empty seat next to Grace. “Is this ladies night or will all your hot men be joining us too?”
“Mine’s over there,” Grace doesn’t miss a beat, pointing toward the pool tables, where not only he stands but so does Mike, and Rhett.
“Mine is here and hers,” Gretchen motions toward me, “will be here any time.”
The waitress comes back to our table placing my drink and Graces before us. After we pay she hurries away to gather Julian’s and a refill for Gretchen.
They quickly roll into conversation about the most recent shenanigans.
“Can we please not recap my most recent embarrassment,” Grace whines and covers her face with her hands. “I swear people should know by now to not just walk into our place. Really though, Terrance needs to remember to lock the doors, even if it is the middle of the day.”
Her cheeks are reddened with embarrassment.
“He’s working on the sunroom that leads out to the pool and he says it's stupid to lock and unlock it each time he goes out for more supplies.”
“But the kitchen table,” Gretchen laughs. “For real I am all for adventure, but from what I’ve heard you two are like wild animals.”
Grace narrows her eyes at Gretchen, attempting to remain straight faced and it only lasts for a few seconds before she bursts out in laughter.
“What can I say,” she shrugs and looks over at Terrance. He must feel her watching him because he looks in her direction and winks, smiling right back at her.
They are so cute together.
I let out a squeal when someone grabs me from behind and I almost fall off of the chair. The chuckle in my ear gives it away and I relax into Garrett’s strong hold.
“You scared me,” I tell him looking over my shoulder as he nuzzles the side of my neck.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers softly, kissing just below my ear.
“I almost fell out of the chair.”
“No way,” he rights me, but keeps his hand on my hip, sliding closer to the side. With his other hand he cups my face and slides in close, his lips only inches from mine. “I’d never let you fall.”
Then his lips are pressed to mine and I’m forgetting all about the fact that we are in a bar, with people all around us.
Whistles break out, someone saying their underwear just went up in flames. I think that was Julian, but I don’t pull away. I’d missed him, today had been a long day and now that he is here, I want to take all he was willing to give.
