“I’m sure I missed you most.” He catches my gaze and leans over to the side table. A tray holds stacks of pancakes with different toppings, bacon, eggs, sausage, a glass of both orange and apple juice, a cup of coffee, fruit and every breakfast item you can imagine.

I sit up in bed and feel my muscles groan in agony, but I don’t care. This has to be the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.

“I know that you prefer to eat healthy, but I just couldn’t help myself.”

“I-I am overwhelmed,” I admit.

“By the choices?” He rubs his hand over his mouth and exposes his dimple. “I was afraid that would happen.”

“No, no.” I laugh. “By your kindness.”

It’s his turn to blush. He kisses me softly and then sits down beside me on the bed. “What do you want to get started with?” He smiles and hovers a hand over the tray.

“The coffee.” I smile as he hands me the dark coffee and a handful of different miniature creamers.

“Did you steal these from a gas station?” I giggle.

“For you.”

I dunk a hazelnut creamer inside and stir it around with a straw. I take a sip and let it overtake my senses. I feel more awake already, awake enough to go another round.

“Pancakes?” he says, cutting off a triangulated section of the fluffy, syrup-covered chocolate chip pancake.

I nod, and he forks a piece into my mouth. This has to be the tastiest pancake I have ever eaten. My eyes widen and roll to the back of my head. “Oh, my God.”

“It’s my personal recipe,” he says with an exaggeratedly smug look.

I roll my eyes and use my hand to cover my full mouth. “You probably make this for all the girls you bed.”

He pauses and cups his hand under the fork, trying to ensure the pancake won’t fall. “What? Do not compare yourself to other girls.”

I blink.

“You are the most beautiful, sweetest girl ever. The other girls might be more jealous of you, than you are of them!”

I bow my head. I am such a coward. Unsure and unable to be in a relationship I don’t feel worthy of having. I’m not good enough for him, or pretty enough. He is probably used to more beautiful, confident women.

His fingers are on my jaw. They move to my chin, tilting my face up to look at his green eyes.

“You are the most amazing woman I have ever known,” he says, his eyes boring into mine.

I am truly the most fortunate one to have Liam Anderson fall for me.

“It’s just… I’m afraid,” I blurt out. His eyes will be my undoing.

He pulls back and raises a brow. “Afraid of what, darling?”

“I’m afraid to love again. I don’t think I could ever bear another heartbreak.” I feel my chest tighten and my throat clench as it tries to hold in an unattractive sob.

His gaze softens, and he flicks his eyes from mine to my hand. He picks it up and plants a kiss on top. “I would never hurt you, ever. You can trust me completely. You are the best thing to happen to me, Cassandra. Truly.”

My eyes blur with tears, but I blink them back.

“But when you are ready, I am going to be here, ready to continue to give you my all. When you are ready to fall in love, let it be with me,” he rasps out softly.

I lean into his touch, and he catches a tear that cascades down my cheek.
