She put the phone on loud speaker and reversed the car out of the cramped driveway that led to the cabin.
As the recorded message sounded, she rolled her eyes in frustration as she started her way down the barely there track.
“Charles, it’s me. I got a lead on an Arcandian living away from a coven. I need you to track the number I am sending you. Don’t delay on this one. It’s going to be worth a lot of money if we can get a hold of her.”
Hanging up the call, her fingers working effortlessly, she brought up the number that Talia had dialed.
True born Arcandians lived for a very long and if there was a way to get grandma alone, Marnie was sure it wouldn’t be too hard to get a good price for her. Smiling, she sent the number on. It really was too easy.
At this rate, she soon would have enough to leave this god-forsaken shit hole. Venice would soon be far behind her. All she needed now was to find the right island paradise to retire to.
Looking up, her eyes going wide as the large black werewolf landed in the middle of the road. His red eyes glowing in her headlights.
“Shit!”
Without thinking, her foot hit the brakes, the wheels skidding on the ice, the steering wheel locking out of her hands
As everything spun.
Glass shattering around her. The car slammed hard into the trees that lined the winding track. Her head hitting the steering wheel, every sense on overload as a dazed ringing filled her ears.
Blinking away the blood dripping over her eyelashes, Marnie groaned as she lifted her head gingerly. She forced herself to look over her shoulder at the now empty road, swearing softly again.
“Its not possible” the spell she had cast on the Titans should have kept the alpha wolves down until well past sunup. The only one it might not work on was the true alpha of the pack. Rumor of his strength had to be just that. Rumor’s.
The creaking of metal drowned out all other sounds as something heavy landed on the roof of her car. The metal grinding and crumbling under its weight. Sharp claws scraping against metal filled the air as it moved..
A squeal escaping her lips as it jumped again, this time landing on the bonnet. His red eyes staring in through her broken windshield at her.
The Titan’s Alpha.
“Hyde” the whisper escaped her lips. The sheer size of the werewolf in front of her was legendary. Bigger than any other Lycan she had ever seen.
Without another thought, her hand raised, energy curling through her.
The large clawed hand wrapped around her throat before she could utter the word of power... Unable to scream, her hands pulling at his grip as he pulled her out of the car, tossing her behind him.
Her body slamming against a tree, all the air escaping out of her, she slid to the ground, her vision full of the advancing wolf.
Struggling to stay conscious, she blinked against her darkening sight as Talia’s scream ripped through the storm.
The monster, a hulking mass of black fur and claws, paused over her. Demonic eyes blazing with dark intent as its deep growl reverberated through the inches between them.
Beads of sweat dripped down her back as she trembled, waiting for the monster to strike. Suddenly, with a swift turn of its massive form, it vanished from sight, swallowed by the trees in an instant.
