CHAPTER THIRTEEN

“Send you home?” Dravenwhispered as he stepped even closer to her. Now that I’ve found you again? Now that I have you safe with me? “

His eyes sucking hers into the dark depths of his gaze. Her heart pounding hard in her chest as his hand rose from her shoulders to her hair.

“Only you have the power to break my heart” his voice was low, smooth. “Every desire of yours I will meet” His eyes dropping to her lips. “Your every want I will fill. whim given.” His touch trailing from her hair to her chin, his thumb brushing across her lips.

“Ask anything of me, but that,”

His fingers moving down over her collarbone to the black diamond nestled above the curve of her breasts.

Trapped between him and the high railing, Talia’s eyes widening. Her whole body vibrating with an ache that stirred to life with every brush of his fingers across her skin.

Her breath hitching in her throat. Pressing her hand against his chest. Desperate to keep a distance between them. Desperate to think past the heat that was filling her cheeks.

Talia closed her eyes and took a deep, steadying breath, instantly enveloped by his intoxicating scent. The familiar aroma of sandalwood and musk tantalized her senses, capturing her entire being. Could it even be possible what he was saying? Did she really know him from a past life? If she did, then why did all her dreams show him to be cruel? A monster?

Pushing past him, Talia ran a shaky hand through her hair. She shivered as she stared at the jasmine, which had climbed its way up and over the wall. There were too many questions to ask. Too many things she didn’t know.

“Who wants me dead?” She didn’t look at him as she asked.

“The Inquisition,” he stayed by the railing. “They hunt Vampires, Lycan and Arcandians.”

“but why me?”

Looking back at him, she felt better with a little distance between them. She could think past the knots in her stomach.

“Because together we can keep them out of the country. We can keep everyone safe. It’s why they killed you before. You are a powerful witch. I am King of America.”

“and if I don’t want to marry you again,” unbidden Hyde came to mind. The way he looked at her. How safe she felt in his arms.

A look of pain crossed Draven’s face. His face going unnaturally still as his eyes searched her face.

“You would deny us before knowing me?”

Flicking her curls away from her face, Talia sighed. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes.

“I dont know how I was in the dark ages. But nowadays women have a choice. Without it, I am nothing but a prisoner. Even if I grew to care for you, it would be nothing more than Stockholm syndrome.”
