I shook my head immediately. “Ben, I’m not that experienced. I was basically Leland’s go-to woman for personal errands and tasks. I did almost nothing in his office. My office skills aren’t suited for a company like Blackwood Technologies.”
His company only employed the best of the best. Katie had mentioned that the programming exam just to get an entry level tech position was incredibly difficult at Blackwood.
Anyone who wanted to work in the offices there, even in a clerical capacity, had to have top-notch skills and plenty of experience.
“It’s an unusual position,” Ben explained. “Part go-to woman and part helping the boss in whatever way you can, including a lot of personal jobs. Said boss can be an asshole sometimes, but he likes to think he’s fair.”
My heart started to race as he went on to mention the salary, the benefits, and the perks of the job.
The pay was ridiculously high for someone with my experience, or should I saylackof experience.
Still, I wanted the position more than I’d wanted anything since my accident.
A fair boss?
A salary and benefits that slightly exceeded the money and benefits I was making as a ballet dancer?
God, I was more than willing to work my ass off to please whoever was my superior.
I was a fast learner.
I could handle an asshole boss if that person just treated me like I was a human being and not worthless property.
“Are you interested?” Ben asked once he was finished explaining.
“I’m still not sure I’m qualified,” I said hesitantly. “But I’m willing to do anything and learn the skills I don’t have.”
“You understand that the duties will be outside of the office? This is a real personal assistant type of position that will require a huge variety of tasks and errands,” he stated matter-of-factly.
I nodded eagerly. “I’d be happy to cook, clean, wash dishes, clothing, grocery shop—”
Ben smirked as he held up a hand. “I get it. You’re willing to do whatever’s necessary.”
“Yes. I want to apply,” I said hastily. “But you know that Leland isn’t about to give me a reference of any kind.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Ben said firmly. “I know he’s a total asshole. And if you want this job, it’s yours.I’mmaking the final decision.”
My eyes widened. “Don’t you want me to meet my boss first? What if he or she doesn’t like me?”
“He,” Ben clarified. “And he already likes you. The individual who needs a personal assistant is…me.”
Chapter 3
Ben
If my self-esteem was at all lacking, the deflated look on Ariel’s face probably would have gutted me.
Luckily, I wasn’t the least bit daunted.
I’d come here to get Ariel Prescott into a decent job, and to help her put her life back together. And that was exactly what I was going to do.
She’d left my mother’s ball the night before like her gorgeous ass was on fire, and I hadn’t had another chance to speak with her.
Today, I was going to get exactly what I wanted.
Just the thought of her being in the vulnerable position she’d been in the night before had kept me up all fucking night.
I needed to teach her some self-defense moves, but even if I knew that she could protect herself, that probably wouldn’t help, either. Not enough to make me forget what had happened on that patio.
