“What about my thighs?” I ask.

“Just how I like to be between them.”

His voice is low and husky and dripping with innuendo. Even though we just finished having amazing sex where I came so hard I saw stars, I feel a little sliver of desire coiling low in my belly. What is it about this man that turns me into a horny teenager? If I’m not careful, I could get addicted to him. That thought is enough to pull me back to my senses. Briefly.

“We need to talk about the rules,” I whisper, even as I trail my fingertip higher on his thigh.

“So, talk.” His fingers lightly squeeze my leg, making me shiver.

“No sleeping with other people,” I say.

His hand stills on my leg and his eyes dart to my face. His expression is no longer playful.

“Layna, I know I have a reputation in this town, but I’ve never cheated on anyone. Ever. I don’t sleep with more than one woman at a time.”

“I just figured that since I don’t actually live here…”

I trail off, realizing that no matter what I say, it will likely sound insulting to him. And that’s not how I meant it. I’d only meant to reassure him that I wasn’t sleeping around when I go back to Atlanta.

“I’m sorry,” I say. “I didn’t mean it that way.”

He grins and his fingers begin their lazy movement once more.

“Good. Now that we understand that, what’s your next rule?”

“We can’t tell anyone,” I say.

He studies me for a long moment, but I can’t read his expression. If the secrecy bothers him, he’s not letting on.

“Can I ask why?” he says.

I lightly scrape my fingernail over his thigh, moving higher. “I don’t want my sister to ask questions or to worry about me. It’s not like me to have a casual fling, so I know she’ll want to talk about it. And I don’t want to.”

“Fair enough,” he says. “But you know things like this are hard to keep secret in a town this small.”

I’ve had the same thought already, but I’d still like to keep it quiet for as long as possible.

“I know,” I say. “But we also don’t need to broadcast it. If only you and me know, the odds are better that we’ll keep it quiet.”

“If that’s what you want,” he says. “What else?”

I eye him for a moment. “You’re awfully agreeable. Don’t you have any rules?”

He grins. “Not if I can help it.”

I roll my eyes. “Be serious for one second, please.”

His hand trails higher, skimming my hip now. “I thought this wasn’t serious. That’s the whole point, right? It’s supposed to be fun.”

“You know what I mean,” I say.

He sighs and meets my gaze. “Fine,” he says. “Honesty. That’s my rule. No matter what happens, we don’t lie. If you want to end things, tell me and there will be no hard feelings. But no lying. If we’re keeping secrets from the rest of the world, we can’t keep them from each other too.”

I nod, but something in his words feels more serious than the situation warrants. “Okay,” I say. “But who’s to say you won’t be the one to end things?”

He grins as his fingers slide between my legs, brushing lightly against me. “I’m never getting enough of this sweet pussy,” he says, pushing slowly into me without breaking eye contact.

“Cole,” I gasp.
