His phone has rung at least six times, and he won’t answer. “Will you answer that?” I snap when it goes off again.

“It’s Ryker. He an asshole,” Bash says.

“What if it’s important?” I ask, frustrated with my sexy mate.

“It’s not,” he says dryly.

“How do you know if you won’t answer the damn phone?” I ask.

“This conversation seems familiar,” he mutters.

“Bash,” I scowl.

“Would you roll down my window?” he asks. The controls on the passenger side are broken.

“You are really cranky,” I say. “Why do you need the window rolled down?”

“Because if I don’t get some air, I’m going to drink your blood, fuck you, and turn you,” he growls.

I stare at his angry face. “Alright, I’ll roll it down.” He leans as far as he can out the now rolled-down window. I answer my phone when it rings. “What's up, Serenity?” I ask. The waves of disapproval coming off of Bash make me smile.

“Where are you?” she asks.

“On a stakeout with Bash. I’m trying to catch a cheating wife, but all she’s doing is getting her nails done and getting waxed. Bash is super cranky. I don’t think he’s cut out for this job. He didn’t even get snacks when I stopped at the gas station. Every time I eat something, he glares at me. He’s been ignoring Ryker’s calls, and he called him an asshole. I’m not sure he wants to be my mate anymore because I’m annoying the hell out of him. On the other hand, he had me roll the window down because he was losing his cool since he could smell my blood.” I stop and look at Bash staring at me in shock.

All I hear is silence on the phone. I looked down at the screen to ensure I didn’t lose her.

“Are you there?” I ask.

“First, I believe that was the most words I’ve heard you say at one time, ever. Second, did you just call Bash, a fierce vampire, cranky?” she asks, her surprise evident.

“Bash brings out my conversation skills again. My parents are older and complained I spoke too much when I was younger, so I stopped.” Also, it’s easier to be invisible and not draw attention when you are silent. I’m surprised that I am so comfortable with Bash. Does being his mate put me at ease? “Bash is being cranky,” I say. I keep my eyes on the salon. I don’t want to miss our girl.

“I’m at a loss,” she says.

“Bash met my boss, and he wasn’t very nice.”

“That I can believe,” she says.

“He gives great orgasms, though,” I say. Bash chokes on air.

“Wow, you seem to be taking this mate thing very well,” Serenity says.

“I’m looking forward to the mating part,” I tell her.

“Alright, well.” There is muffled chuckling through the phone.

“Sorry, that’s an overshare. I’m having a hard time keeping my thoughts inside my head.”

“No problem. I like this new Marie.”

“It’s not new, just suppressed, but I’m glad someone does,” I sigh.

“You said you’re trying to catch a cheating wife?” she asks.

“Yup, but she’s not doing much cheating yet,” I inform her.

“Put the damn phone on speaker,” Bash demands.
