“You surprise me. You are not at all how I heard.”
“I’m sorry,” I whisper, lowering my eyes. I feel so comfortable with him that I don’t temper my words.
“Shit, I don’t mean it in a bad way,” he says. He cups my cheek, bringing my eyes back to his. “I’m glad you can be yourself with me. You make me happy,” he says.
“I do?”
“Yes, which surprises me too,” he says, chuckling.
“Good, I would hate to embarrass you,” I confess.
“Why would you embarrass me?” he asks, jerking back.
“When we go to the club. I’m not great in social situations, especially in crowded places. There is no guarantee that I won’t panic and run out of there or say the wrong thing.”
“If you are scared, we don’t have to do it,” he says simply. “If you panic, I’ll be there to get you out.”
“Thanks, Bash,” I say. “I want to try to move out of my comfort zone. I’ve been hiding for too long. You make me feel safe.”
“I doubt I am worthy of such confidence.”
“You are,” I say softly.
“Did I just agree to go undercover with you?” He glares at me.
“Yep,” I grin.
“Sneaky mate,” he growls.
I smile at his grumpy face.

We had a good morning, drank coffee, ate (blood for Bash and eggs for me), and staked out Tabitha’s apartment. We followed her to the grocery store and to get a new phone. It was super boring, but I was used to it.
I discovered that Bash is the most patient person I’ve ever met. He can sit for hours in silence. I thought I was quiet.
Tabitha is at a hotel taking a nap before her big night with scary Brandon, so we had time to meet with Ryker and Serenity. Ryker insisted on being close by in case we needed him.
“Marie, you look amazing,” Serenity gushes. I’m surprised to see Harmony and her mates: Jax, James, and Blue.
“Thanks,” I say shyly. All of their eyes are on me and making me uncomfortable.
“You’re making her uncomfortable,” Bash growls, and I turn big eyes to him.
“Bash,” I grit.
“What? They are,” he scowls.
“Yeah, but you don’t have to say so,” I say, frustrated.
“I don’t lie.” He slips his arm around me and guides me to the couch in Ryker’s office.
“It’s not lying if you don’t say anything,” I inform him snottily.
“I will tell them if they are making you feel bad.”
“It was nothing; forget about it,” I urge.
