“He’s so different with you,” Serenity says. She knows him the best, so I can take her word for it. “He can’t take his eyes off of you.”
“That makes me get that giddy feeling that doesn’t happen in real life.” It’s hard to explain the pull I feel toward him. “Is the Bond the only reason I’m feeling this way?”
“Well.” They look at each other.” Yeah.” My face falls.
“But that’s how it’s supposed to be,” Serenity says. “The universe knows you’re supposed to be together; they put you together for a reason. With the mating bond, it speeds up the process.”
“You have to go with it. He was meant to be yours.” Harmony looks at me knowingly. “Bash needs you more than you need him.”
“Ryker hasn’t told me much about Bash’s past, but I feel it was traumatic. He’s shut himself off from everyone but Ryker. He’s opened up a little more with the newest guys in the group. His first instinct is to fight it with you, but judging from the interaction I witnessed tonight, he’s failing and falling hard,” Serenity says.
I take a breath. “Okay, that makes me feel better.”
“Don’t fight it. It will all fall into place. The universe is never wrong,” Harmony says.
“Deep down, I know that. I want him, and I want him forever,” I confess.
“You’ll have him. Your love story will be the best yet,” Harmony says, smiling.
I wish I had as much confidence as they did. I’ll have to borrow some of theirs and hope for the happily ever after that I know Bash deserves.
“Are you ready?” Serenity asks.
“Sure,” I say sarcastically.
The hardest part is going to be staying on my feet. They forced me into heels; the last time I wore them was to a funeral years ago. I wobble out the door, gripping the walls as we go. I will have Bash to keep me from falling on my face. I grip the rail in the elevator, my stomach fluttering.
The girls open the door to Bash’s apartment with a flourish, walking in first. I’m concentrating so hard that it takes me a minute to notice the vibe in the room and that there is a man I don’t know standing by Ryker. Even though he’s stunning, my attention snaps to Bash. He’s growling low and glaring.
“Don’t fucking look at her,” he tells the room. They try to smother their smiles as they look away. “Shit.” He prowls towards me. He cups the back of my neck, pressing his fingers, forcing me to meet his gaze. “Are you determined to force me to kill tonight?”
“No,” I whisper.
“I will. Anyone touches you, tries to touch, shit, even if they look at you with lust in their eyes,” he says fiercely.
“So, most likely, someone will die tonight,” the stunning man says dryly.
“Shut up, Bishop,” Bash says roughly.
“Don’t worry,” I say, running my hand down Bash’s chest. “Are you saying you like the dress?” I smile.
“Woman, of course I do, but everyone else will like it too,” he complains.
“They won’t dare say anything with my dark angel next to me.”
“Dark angel?” James snorts.
“James,” Jax warns.
“If I had a mate as beautiful as she is, I would show her off,” Bishop claims.
“You have a death wish, my friend,” Bash says, his voice lowering dangerously. He takes a step back so he can look at him but keeps his hand on my neck.
Bishop holds his hands up innocently. “I’m just saying.”
“Just don’t.”
“Marie, I’ve heard so much about you. I’m Bishop,” he says, his lips twitching.
