“Okay.” I take his advice, falling asleep quickly.

Bash whistles when I come down the stairs. I concentrate on every step. Walking in heels has always been touch-and-go. I’m always teetering unsteadily, on the brink of falling, but my balance is better as a vampire. I’m not taking any chances, though.
I wanted to dress up for Bash—go all out. My tattoos are on full display. I have to give credit for this vampire thing; it has given me confidence. All I care about is Bash’s opinion. He gives me permission to be myself. He gives me power.
My black skirt floats around my thighs in a bell shape. My shirt is silver sparkles, sleeveless and backless. The delicate strings are the only thing holding it on me, crisscrossing my back. I have to admit the heels are killer. When Ava picked them out, I had no intention of ever wearing them. Black and silver jeweled, they have straps that cross over the top and run up my legs.
Even more than making Bash proud, I wanted to feel as beautiful as he makes me feel. Now, seeing his eyes light and his spine straighten, I reveal in my power.
“Marie, you look—” his gaze does a heated sweep. “Stunning.”
“Thanks,” I say. He’s wearing black slacks, a white dress shirt, open at the collar, and a white fitted suit jacket with a slight silver glimmer. It’s a departure from his usual dark colors—the white calls more attention to his white hair, which he avoids. “You look sexy. I love the white. Did you sneak a peek at the shirt I was going to wear?” I ask, narrowing my eyes. It’s ridiculous to think he dressed to match me.
“Of course not.” He smirks. “We must think alike.”
“Uh-huh,” I mutter.
“Should we go?” he asks, offering his arm.
“I’m ready as I’ll ever be,” I say nervously. I’m not sure how I’ll act in a club full of people.
“Don’t worry. I will be with you all the time.”
“Are we going to your club?” I ask as he guides us to the elevator.
“We are. Ryker will be there, along with the others.”
“He’s letting Serenity come out?”
“He doesn’t let Serenity do anything.” He chuckles. “She wouldn’t miss this.”
“Are we walking?” I ask, confused when he stops on the sidewalk.
“Yes, but not the way you are used to.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m going to teach you to walk in the shadows.”
“The thing that I do when I think about a location?” I ask, confused.
“Not exactly,” he says, smiling. “When you suddenly show up in a location you think of, you are unconsciously moving. You’re barely thinking about it. That usually only happens to a new vampire that has little control over their movement. It only seems as if you pop into a location. As you learn and grow in your powers, you are always conscious of your movement.” He waits for the understanding to come over me. “We can walk to the club, but the way we do it is blur our bodies. We go fast, but not that fast. The people that we pass don’t see us because of the speed. They may see a shadow or feel a presence but only briefly. It can be disorienting the first time, but I think you will get the hang of it quickly.”
“I’ll take your word for it,” I say doubtfully, nibbling on my lip.
“Just follow my lead.”
“I trust you,” I say. His eyes light up.
“Good. Ready?”
“I always wanted to be invisible, but I think I will like this better.”

It was awesome. I felt free. So, I started shaky—I ran into a couple. Bash had to scramble their minds, making them forget the crazy people that suddenly appeared in front of them, almost knocking them over. Bash was patient and praised me. I loved it. I plan to use my new skill to go to work or the store or anywhere. I’m excited about it.
