Page 89 of Saving Her Vampire
“You jumped in front of a bullet meant for Bash,” Ava says.
“I did, and I would do it again,” I say quietly.
“You will not,” Bash says.
“It was brave,” Ava says, sticking up for my actions.
“It was stupid,” Kerian says.
“She was protecting her mate,” Ava says to him.
“He’s a vampire. He didn’t need protecting,” Kerian responds.
“Everyone needs protecting,” Ava says.
“Mate, if you ever did that, you would get a red ass,” River says, causing Ava to gasp.
“Don’t talk about my ass in front of our friends,” Ava scolds.
“Why not?” River snorts. “Everyone has one, cupcake. Most the men here, I’m sure, enjoy a red ass once in a while.”
“River,” she cries.
“What are your plans for Sammy?” Bishop breaks through the bickering.
“That will be up to Marie,” Bash says. “Who is with him now?” he asks River.
“I left Tristan with him. I have to say, decide quickly. We patched him up the best we could, but if you leave him for long, he won’t make it,” River says.
“Understood,” Bash says.
“I’m going to go to the restroom,” I say suddenly.
“I’ll take you,” Bash says.
“No, it’s fine. I’m in control, and I won’t be long.” I kiss him and move quickly out of the room.
I had to have a moment to myself. I haven’t let my mind go to those moments in the basement yet. I’m not sure if I’m ready for it. I walk as fast as I can without causing suspicion and slip into the bathroom. I lean on the sink, taking deep breaths. Luckily, the restroom is huge and mostly empty.
I don’t know if I can face him. I’d rather forget about the whole thing and deal with the challenges of my new life instead of seeing him again. Sure, I want him dead. Who wouldn’t? After what he did to so many others, he won’t stop after me if we let him go.
I wash my hands just for something to do and rub imaginary makeup off the corner of my eyes when a woman walks by. Shit, I can’t hide. I don’t want to worry Bash or the others.
I walk steadily out the door. As soon as I cross the threshold, I’m pressed into the dark corner of the hallway. I’m not scared, knowing Bash’s touch and scent. He leans beside me with his elbow on the wall.
“If you want me to kill him and end it, I will. You don’t have to see him.”
He knows exactly what I’m thinking. “I don’t want to appear weak.”
“Weak is not a word I would use to describe you.” He runs his other hand up my thigh and under my skirt.
I didn’t expect our conversation to take this turn. “What words would you use?”
“Beautiful.” He teases the edge of my lace underwear. “Brave.” He slips his finger underneath. “Sexy.” He rubs my clit. “Mine.” He slides inside of me.
“Those are good words,” I groan.
“There are so many more we can get to later.” He thrusts in and out. “I want you to come on my fingers, in my club, with thousands of people steps away.” He goes faster. “Ride them.”
