“No,” I told him, not letting him pull away. “That was perfect…”
“No condom.” Yeah, I knew. The apology and worry in his voice had me twisting in his arms. It slipped his cock out of me and cum leaked out onto my thighs. That was messy, but right now I didn’t care about that. I cared about him.
“Birth control is covered,” I promised him. “I’m clean. I’m assuming you are, because you are far too controlled to have slipped like that if there was something you were guarding against.”
Even in the dim light of the room, I could read the surprise on his face. “I’m clean.” It was a promise.
“Then that was fine…” I nipped his lower lip. “Better than fine. It was fucking amazing. You have no idea how good you feel.”
He grinned. “Are you still sore?”
“Not really. Want to get me there?”
I swore his cock twitched. He didn’t answer me in words, instead, he flipped me onto my back and began to pepper my chest with kisses.
I had no idea how long we lingered in his room that day. I needed more time, but it wasn’t meant to be. We had a day or two, time with Emersyn, and then Ezra was there. Em came to tell me and Pretty Boy was furious.
It looked like he wanted to forbid me from speaking to him, except that wasn’t possible. Ezra and I went way back… Em had spoken to him, and she said he was really worried. Despite Pretty Boy’s objections, I talked to Ezra alone. He was right outside and would be in their office in a flash if I needed him.
Walking into the office, with its worn walls and furniture, was like walking into a different world. Even stranger, coming face to face with Ezra there, was like waking up to a completely different one. I wasn’t the girl I’d been when we last spoke.
The wild heat in his dark green eyes scorched me before they shuttered. He was shackled to the desk. I frowned at the restraints, but he gave me a once-over.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Lainey?” The lack of emotion in his voice wasn’t anything new. Ezra had the ability to skin people alive with his anger, yet he usually saved his rancor with me for when he was drunk.
He didn’t appear to be even tipsy at the moment. Folding my arms, I stared at him. “Why areyouhere?”
“I asked first,” he snapped back, but there was a tiredness in Ezra Graham’s voice that worried me. The intensity of his stare wasn’t really helping. “You have no business being here or taking these kinds of risks—”
“I think I’ll decide what risks I can and will take,” I cut him off. “I’m here for Emersyn. I’m assuming that’s why you’re here.”
He opened his mouth then snapped it shut again. He blew out an aggrieved breath. “I’ve been trying to find Adam.”
“Well, he was here the other day,” I told him with a shrug. “You should get them to take you to wherever he is.”
“You didn’t talk to him?” Shock stamped itself on his expression.
“No.” I kept it simple, shrugging. “I told you, I’m here for Em. She needs me.”
“Then get her, and let’s take her back with us.”
Yeah, that wasn’t happening. Not that I wouldn’t use every resource at my disposal to protect her, but Emersyn was invested in these guys. Then there was Pretty Boy.
“Go home, Ezra. When I’m done, and if I need a ride, I’ll call.” That was about all I could offer him.
“Andrea will be home soon.” Of course, he’d bring up my younger sister. He cared about her too. She was also Adam’s sister.
“I know, and I’ll be there when she is back.”
“You should leave now,” he said, his hand flexing as he couldn’t move from where he’d been shackled. “With me. This is the last place you should be, and if you don’t think I won’t come back here with enough people to take them—”
I raised a hand, and he stopped. “Ezra, they’re Emersyn’s family. You’re going to leave them alone.”
His eyes narrowed. “You have no idea what is going on…”
Pushing away from the wall, I crossed to where he stood. “I know a lot more than you think. Just because you and Adam want me in the dark doesn’t mean anyone else does. There’s a war, Emersyn’s in the middle of this, and you and Adam are keeping secrets…including secrets about her.”
His mouth flattened into a thin line.
