Page 243 of Hate to Love You
I should’ve known they’d never honor their word.
Cillian and I had barely started our conversation before I heard movement in the darkness, and Caesar lunged, stopping a man from blindsiding me.
That’s when the gun went off.
Three men were there that day, so to me, all of them are responsible for what happened to my fucking dog.
“I’m going to enjoy this.”
Licking my bottom lip, I pull on my black leather gloves, watching the man in the chair.
“Wake him,” I whisper darkly.
Cal holds his finger to a button on the small black controller in his hand and the power flickers, a loud electrical buzzing echoing in the building. The body of my unconscious prisoner suddenly goes rigid, shaking violently from the shock of electricity pumping through his metal chair.
Now he’s awake.
“Hello, Sean,” I say, salivating watching the instant panic flashing in his eyes as he realizes his inability to move. “How nice of you to join us.”
“Mmmmpf!” He grunts, unable to talk from the gag in his mouth.
But tonight, isn’t about talking.
“This is normally the part where I’d ask you if you know why I brought you here, and blah, blah, blah,” I say, rubbing my hands together as I roll my eyes. “But you do know, Sean.”
The man starts to mumble something, but I raise my finger in the air, and Cal presses the button once more, sending another wave of electricity though the man’s body.
Lowering my hand, Cal releases the button, and the man can breathe again. His whole body shakes, and beads of sweat form on his skin as he blinks rapidly.
“Forgive me,” I grin. “I just want to make sure that you are good and awake for what is going to come next.”
“Mmmmpf!” He strains against the metal cuffs.
“What was that? Sorry, I can’t hear you,” I say, leaning in closer as the man continues to grunt and mumble against the gag. “Here, let me help you.”
Reaching forward I pull the Antonov dagger from my pocket and press it to the man’s face, slicing his cheek as I cut through the gag.
That’s good…I need him to bleed.
“Arrrgh!” He grunts, as blood starts to pour down his face. “Fuck you man! I don’t know anything anyway!”
“Oh, I know,” I smile viciously.
“I won’t tell you shit, motherfucker!” He says, straining against the chair.
“I know that too. But don’t worry, I prefer it if you try not to talk anyway,” I chuckle, turning away from him and nodding to Cal. “It definitely makes it more fun that way.”
“Yeah? Well do your worst, you fucking monster!” He shouts at me. “I didn’t do anything to you!”
Suddenly, I snap.
Turning on my heel I storm back over to him and land two hard punches across the man’s face, breaking his nose, and sending blood spraying all over him…and me.
“No,” I hiss, grabbing the man’s throat and squeezing so hard I can feel his racing pulse as his face turns purple. “You did it to my fucking dog! You call me a monster? You and your little maggot kin shot a fucking dog!”
Releasing him, Sean gasps for breath.
“You think you’re a big man for attacking a small animal?” I spit angrily, my chest heaving with rage. “Well, I’m about to balance the scales.”
