“Abigail—”

“I killed your men,” I blurt out, my heart pounding in my chest. “I disrespected your family, your name. I deserve to die. But he doesn’t.”

“Stop this!” Roman snaps angrily. “I’m not going to shoot you! But I cannot have these rumors spreading amongst my men, I need to make sure that doesn’t happen. Now move!”

“I’m not fucking moving!” I shout at him. “So, if you insist on shooting him, then you need to shoot me first.”

“Move, Abigail.”

“No.”

“Move!” He bellows again, his jaw ticking.

“No!” I scream at him, crossing my arms as I hold my ground.

He stares at me in silence, the fury shaking through him as he fights with himself.

“Paulie,” I say, my eyes locked firmly on Roman’s.

“Y…yes, Miss?”He whispers shakily.

“You can go.”

I can feel the reluctance from behind me, but I know the moment Paulie starts to move from the sound of his shoes scuffing across the floor, and from the way Roman’s eyes darken.

“Where. The. Fuck,” Roman snaps out. “Do you think you’re going?”

“He’s leaving.” I reply firmly.

“He doesn’t take orders from you.”

“He does now,” I smirk, as I hear the front door softly click closed.

I stare down the barrel of Roman’s gun, still raised at me.

Slowly I take a step forward, feeling the cool metal of the barrel pressing straight into my forehead. I raise my chin, my eyes locking onto Roman’s.

He stares at me in shock, before clicking the safety back on, and throws the gun to the side.

“Jesus Christ!” He gasps, running a hand through his hair. before gripping my shoulders to pull me against him. “What the fuck are you thinking, Abigail!”

I shrug out of his hold, “You dismissed me.”

“It was business.”

“Business,” I snort. “Roman, you ignored me! You pretended I wasn’t in the room with you.”

“That man disrespected me!” He roars.

“So that means you can disrespect me?” I mutter.

“Abigail—”

“He didn’t disrespect you, Roman,” I snap. “In fact, he did the opposite, he was looking out for you. Which is his job. He did absolutely nothing wrong.”

“He was questioning my leadership. My strength.”

“Like hell he was!”
