“You know you could just talk to him to find out?”

“I would’ve done that had he not rejected me,” I snapped. I exhaled slowly. It wasn’t Owen’s fault, and I needed to get over the initial meeting. “Owen, I’m sorry. The question I wanted to ask was how old are his parents?”

“They’re in their fifties or so. Why?”

I bowed my head. Shit. “I’m older than his parents,” I whispered.

“Hey, I told you, Brian likes older men. Randy was about fifteen years older than him. You’ll be fine,” Owen said.

“I’m almost forty years older than him. That’s a way bigger number than fifteen. God. What was Fate thinking? I haven’t been on a date in almost forever. I have no idea what he likes or what to do. And I’m older than his damn parents.” My heart raced, and my chest tightened. I didn’t know if I was having a heart attack, but I did know it was getting hard to breathe.

A gentle hand clasped my shoulder. “Edward, it’s okay. Don’t stress. Hayden and I will help you navigate things. Hell, I can help you figure out a date right now.”

I looked over at Hayden, who nodded his agreement, then focused on Owen. “You can help me figure it out.”

Owen leaned back into the seat. “I absolutely can.”

“Thanks,” I said.

“Good, you all figure that out. I’m going to run inside and grab our food.”

I looked back to the front, and we had indeed parked in front of Woo’s Kitchen. I didn’t even notice. “Here, Hayden. Take my card.” I reached into my pocket to give him my credit card.

“I got it, Dad. Keep talking things out with Owen. I’ll be back in a few,” Hayden replied, getting out of the car.

I shook my head as Hayden walked into the restaurant. “You know that’s the first time he’s ever refused money for food from me.”

Owen laughed. “I’m so going to tell him you said that.”

It was my turn to laugh. “Please don’t. Then he’ll ask me to reimburse him.”

I turned to face Owen once again, amid his chuckles, and sobered. “Owen.”

Owen stopped laughing immediately. “What is it?”

“Can I ask you a serious question?”

“Sure,” Owen said slowly.

I took a deep breath before asking. “How do you bond? I know you and Hayden did. I can feel the connection between you. I think that would help between Brian and me.”

“It no doubt would. The connection that Hayden and I now share eliminated all my doubts. But,” Owen paused. “Like Brian’s nana told him. If you really are fated mates, you’ll figure it out. It’s important for your relationship. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are shortcuts.”

I sighed and turned back. “That’s what I was afraid of.”

“Hey, don’t worry. I have all the hope in the world for you guys. You’ll figure it out.”

I looked back at Owen and smiled. He was right. Nothing worth having was easy. “You’re right. Let’s talk dates. What’s Brian like?”
