Bondar Disaster

Brian

We arrived back from New York on Sunday afternoon, and it felt like I was on a roller coaster of emotions. Our bonding, the incredible weekend in the city, and now meeting my parents—it was a lot to take in. I was nervous and scared but excited, too—excited at the possibilities.

I peered out the window at the passing trees, and part of me wished we were still in New York, carefree and enjoying life. I glanced back, and Talon was staring at his phone. He’d been a fixture with us on the trip and refused to leave us without a guard detail.

I laughed when I thought back to how Talon had refused to leave us unattended for the evening. Edward was so frustrated, but Talon simply said, “Brian is the king’s consort of the pride. It is my duty to see to his protection and yours. It’s a matter of the pride’s security. I will call Mr. Doy if I have to.”

Those words shut Edward up, and he reluctantly agreed that Talon could come but would make himself scarce at my parents. He was concerned my family would have a hard enough time with one predator, let alone two.

My stomach churned with a mixture of anxiety and anticipation as we turned into my parent’s neighborhood. I fiddled with my leather cuff, trying to keep my hands occupied. Edward reached over and gently placed his hand on mine, giving me a reassuring squeeze.

"Relax, Bunny. Your parents are going to love me," he said with a confident smile.

I let out a nervous laugh. "I hope so. I just don't want them to freak out about the whole predator shifter thing."

Edward gave my hand another squeeze. "It's going to be fine. Remember, we're in this together. No matter what happens, we have each other. I’m going anywhere.”

I smiled back at him. I prayed he was right. We turned on my parent’s street, and it was ‘go’ time. Before reaching their home, Edward stopped the car and looked back at Talon.

“This is where you get off. I called Walter, and he’s sending a few other men over. Go ahead and meet up with them but stay out of sight. I don’t want any in-laws to be nervous.”

Talon nodded. "Yes, Sire. I'll make sure we all stay out of sight. We won't interrupt your meeting." Talon opened his door and got out. He stuck his head back in before closing. "Good luck to both of you. You've not only got His Majesty, Brian, but you've also got a pride behind you now."

I grinned at him, and he shut the door and ran off out of sight. Edward turned back around and continued until we reached my family’s home. I groaned internally. It looked like everyone was here so Edward would get the full Bondar experience. God help him.

We parked the car, and I released a loud breath. “You ready?”

Edward gave me a warm smile. “I’m ready. Brian, no matter what: I’m here for you.”

I squeezed his hand before opening my door. I slid out of the car and walked to the front. Edward joined me and held out his hand. I quickly intertwined my fingers with his. His touch gave me strength as we proceeded to the door.

The door swung open, and Eva ran out. “Uncle Brian!” she cried and wrapped he little arms around my waist.

“Oof, Thumper, you’re getting big and strong,” I said, bending over and giving her a tiny hug.

She pulled back and grinned at me. She opened her mouth to speak but stopped. Twitching her nose, she leaned forward and sniffed Edward. She pulled back and tilted her head.

“Who are you? What are you?” she asked.

“Eva, get back here.”

Eva jumped, and I cringed at my sister’s harsh voice before Eva ran back toward the entrance. I peered up toward the door where Olivia stood with her arms crossed, a scowl marring her beautiful face.

“Hey, Liv,” I said.

I squeezed Edward’s hand, and we approached the door. Olivia’s eyes narrowed, and she straightened her posture.

“Brian, who’s,” she scanned Edward from head to toe, “this? Mom said to expect a surprise guest, but I never would have expected—”

“This Edward Satchel, my mate,” I interrupted. “My fated mate.”

Olivia’s eyes widened in surprise. “No fucking way!”

“Language, young lady.” Nana pushed behind Olivia and slapped her arm. “If your mother heard you, she’d give you a whack in the mouth.”

Nana looked at us, scanning Edward from head to toe as Olivia had done, but instead of a scowl, she wore a smile. “My, you’re a handsome one. Hilde Bondar, nice to meet you.”
