For a second, I was sure he was going to kiss me.
But he pulled back, letting go of me and taking a step away as he pulled his phone from his pocket.
“This is great, Felicity. We’re going to make a good team.” He grinned as he started swiping through apps on his phone.
I took a deep breath. I was still a little unsteady on my feet.
“You’ll have to move in, of course,” he said. “I’ll set up the moving company now to help you.”
“Wait, what?” I gripped the edge of the counter. “I have to move in here?”
He looked at me. “We need to keep up appearances. Most engaged couples live together, after all.”
“That's... I didn't know I’d have to move in.”
He looked at me over his phone. “We need this engagement to look believable. If there's a shadow of doubt, it will hurt my chances in court.”
I chewed my lip. What was I getting myself into?
“You'll have your own room. I don't think anyone will be checking to make sure we sleep in the same bed.”
The thought of sharing a bed with Cooper made my mouth water.
“You'll be totally comfortable here,” Cooper said. “Think of it as a vacation. I assume your apartment is on the same… level as the Plymouth Breeze?”
“Pretty much.”
“Then you might enjoy your time here. Monica is an excellent cook. She'll make anything you want. She comes to work six days a week, so you won’t have to worry about meals or housekeeping, which will free up your time to focus on your business. Plus, the girls already love you.”
“They do?”
He nodded. “Absolutely. Lily is never that talkative with new people. She warmed up to you very fast. Eva, too. They’ll love having you around for a few months.”
I smiled, tracing the edge of the granite counter. “That part sounds fun.”
He returned to tapping on his cell phone. “So, when should I schedule the movers? How about tomorrow? I’d like to start immediately.”
I swallowed.
The whole arrangement was insane. I was doing something crazy already. Why not embrace it and go totally off the deep end?
“Sure.” I threw my arms in the air. “I can move in tomorrow.”
I took a sip of water, sneaking a peek at his muscled body.
How could I possibly share a roof with this man for three months?

COOPER
I stood in the doorway and watched as Felicity drove away in her car.
I'd managed to do it.
I didn't know how, but I’d miraculously convinced this gorgeous young woman to pose as my fake fiancée.
Suddenly, all of the problems that had been plaguing me were solved.
