She put her hand on my shoulder. “It will be.”

I met her hazel eyes, lost in the deep jewel tones of her irises.

“I can see the girls belong here with you,” she said. “I’ll do everything I can to help, Cooper.”

“Thank you, Felicity.”

She looked away quickly and removed her hand. I willed my cock not to wake up.

She took a sip from her glass. “I’ve had my own spectacular fail of a relationship, you know.”

“Oh?”

“Yes. A professional skateboarder.”

I raised my eyebrows. “For real?”

“Yes. Charlie the skater. When he wasn’t skating, he was playing video games. The guy didn’t know how to operate a washing machine.” She laughed so hard she set her wine glass on the table before she spilled it. “I felt more like his mom than his girlfriend.”

“And you said you weren’t good with children,” I joked.

Felicity smiled into the distance. “Yeah, he really was just a boy. Not…” She swallowed. “Not a man.”

She shifted her head sideways, letting her gaze trail up my body to meet my eyes.

She looked at me pointedly, her last words lingering in the air.

Felicity wanted to know what a real man could show her. And I was more than willing to oblige.

All hope of avoiding an erection was lost in the way she looked at me.

I set my wine glass on the coffee table.

“I guess we’ve both made some bad calls in the past,” I said. I let my eyes move over her face, settling on her full mouth.

“How do we know we’re not about to make another one?” she murmured.

I traced the collar of her pink blouse. “Would a bad call feel this amazing?”

She parted her lips. “No, it wouldn’t.”

This is it, Cooper. Your last chance to stop before you do something you’ll regret forever.

Don’t do it. This will make everything complicated.

But I was beyond listening to the voice of reason. I couldn’t resist kissing Felicity another moment.

As she leaned in, her eyes closed, I pressed my mouth to hers.

Like a man crawling through the desert who spots water, I drank her in greedily.

She opened her mouth, letting me inside.

Fuck, she was so soft and sweet. I plunged my hand in her loose hair, holding the back of her head.

She put her delicate hand on my chest, then moved both hands behind my neck. I explored her mouth, pulling her petite body against mine.

She pulled away suddenly to look at me breathlessly. She looked shocked for a moment. Her features were flushed from the wine and the kiss.
