“Beautiful, Lily!” Felicity shouted above the booming music filtering through the speakers.
“I can’t believe how much progress they’ve made in two weeks,” I said.
“They’re naturals at this.” Felicity shrugged. “I’m just glad they’re having fun. And I am too, honestly. I had no idea designing for children would be such a blast.”
Eva appeared in her next outfit: a purple sleeveless top with bright yellow shorts. The color combination was outrageous and bold, but it suited her perfectly.
After Lily’s next appearance in a lavender skirt and white top, the show was over. The girls entered the living room for their final bows.
“Nice work, girls!” I said as we applauded. Inga joined us in the living room to cheer them on. “I’m so proud of you both.”
“I am, too,” Felicity said. “You’ve both been working so hard.”
They really had been. Most evenings after Felicity got home from Moonstone, she and the girls would put in a few hours in the sewing studio. It seemed the girls loved spending time with Felicity even more than they loved making clothes.
Lily stood close to Felicity, who put her arm around her and gently squeezed her little shoulders.
“Thanks for teaching us how to sew,” Eva said. “It’s our new favorite thing.”
Felicity laughed. “It’s been my pleasure.”
I turned the music off and looked at my watch. “It’s almost time for your dance lessons, girls.”
“Come on, you two. Let’s get you ready for dance class,” Inga said. She gathered up all the outfits and hustled the girls toward the staircase.
The girls ran upstairs with Inga following them.
I started to move the couch back to its proper place, and Felicity helped by grabbing one corner. “You've really outdone yourself, Felicity. Those designs were amazing.”
Felicity set her end of the couch down. “To be honest, I don't know anything about kids' fashions. I was just winging it.”
I scoffed as I moved the coffee table. “You know plenty about kids' fashions. The show just now made that obvious. I’m no fashion expert, but I know you can’t find unique clothes like that in department stores.”
She laughed. “I was just having fun.”
“Maybe you should think about expanding your line into children's wear.” I picked up the armchair and set it down by the coffee table.
Felicity blinked. “Really?”
“Absolutely. You have a knack for it, Felicity.”
“Well, it was really fun working on these little outfits.” She beamed. “But selling kids’ clothes? I never thought about that before.”
I turned to face her, taking a step closer. “Well, you should think about it now.” My voice came out lower than I intended. Suddenly the conversation felt… intimate.
Her eyes locked on mine, and we froze in place. I breathed in her floral perfume, becoming acutely aware of how close we were standing. She looked up at me, those deep doe eyes innocent and mesmerizing.
Fuck, I wanted her.
It had been torture being in the same house with her the past few weeks without touching her. Right now, it was excruciating. Everything about this woman turned me on.
“Daddy, we want Felicity to take us to dance class!” Eva announced as they raced down the stairs.
Felicity and I took a step back from each other just before the girls ran into the living room.
Inga was behind them, and she grabbed her purse from the entertainment center. It was the end of her Friday afternoon shift, and I usually took the girls to dance class.
“Are you heading off now, Inga?” I turned my attention to her, keeping Felicity out of my sight. I needed a chance to cool off after our heated moment alone.
