“I'm sorry, I have to take this. It’s the furniture delivery company.”

“No problem.”

I watched her as she took the call. The sunlight from the window fell on her brown hair. She seemed to glow in the warm light. Once again, I was mesmerized by her beauty.

She ended the call, dropping her phone in her purse and looking sheepishly at me as she stood.

“I have to be at the store in ten minutes to receive the delivery. They weren't supposed to come this early. I'm sorry, Cooper.”

I waved her off. “No big deal. We can talk later.”

“Should I come to the house this evening?”

“Yes. I'd like that.”

“Okay. See you tonight.” She gave me a smile before hurrying out of the office.

I watched her go, feeling a little better. At least we were talking now. Maybe we could get through this rough patch.

But then what?

I wanted her to stay forever, but Felicity was planning to move out after the custody decision was made.

The pain in my chest felt like someone had driven a knife through it.

How would I ever be able to say goodbye to Felicity?

Maybe she was open to a genuine relationship. She’d said she didn’t want to be with anyone else, either.

Did that mean she wanted more from me?

I was being stupid. I just needed to tell her how I felt. Talk it through.

That’s why I’d gotten so upset last night. I didn’t know where we stood.

I wanted more from her than just sex. More than a fake relationship. I wanted to make this real.

I turned my computer off and stood up. I should go to her boutique to help her move the furniture, anyway.

Then, I’d tell her the truth.

FELICITY

The furniture delivery couldn't have come at a worse time.

I was just about to tell Cooper I was pregnant. Now I’d have to keep this bombshell to myself a little longer.

But still, we’d made progress. Cooper had said he didn’t want to be with anyone else.

Did that mean we were exclusive? I was confused, and I needed to talk to him about it.

I rushed back to Moonstone Boutique to unlock the doors, my emotions nearly overwhelming me. The deliverymen arrived at the rear entrance of the store soon after I did.

The two guys quickly unloaded the furniture, racks, and stands for the bespoke children's section. I needed the new pieces to display a small variety of fabrics for customers to choose from, as well as information about how the process worked. Some of the furniture would be used for my off-the-rack girls’ section, too.

As they worked, I consulted my order form, comparing it to the items they delivered. The temperature in the store suddenly felt stifling. I tied my hair into a bun and fanned myself with the paperwork.
