Page 76 of Total Obsession
I also knew that if I showed signs of not being well, he would jump to the next big thing. The nerve-wracking part was that I already had shown those signs.
The London mishap.
The Miami mishap.
Beau and Primo coming after me.
I grimaced.
None of those were good signs for an employee in this sort of industry.
So, I needed to be careful.
I made my way back inside, grabbed a glass of water, and went back into the bedroom. I stood at the foot of the bed, watching Zoey sleep.
Will had been right the last time he said it.
I was completely obsessed with Zoey.
When all of this had started, the reason for my obsession was clear. Things were starting to become very murky now.

"I can't believe that Matt is still missing," Zoey exclaimed, reading another headline on her phone. "I wonder what this is going to do to the second season of the show."
The reception for the new show had been overwhelmingly positive. People loved her performance, and she was fast becoming a new television star. She had interviews lined up with a number of late-night hosts over the next month. She was starting to make the rounds, and even without my help, I knew it would only be a matter of time before she found herself on the big screen.
"The first season has been doing extremely well," I remarked. "I'm sure they will find someone to replace Matt to direct the second season."
She gave me a look. "You really don't think he's going to turn up?"
I gave her a shrug and took a sip of my morning coffee. "How long has he been missing now?" I asked.
"Since the premiere,” she replied, giving me information that I already knew.
"Unlikely at this point, but not impossible," I lied. It was going to be very impossible for Matt to show up to film the second season of the show, considering by this time his ashes were very much floating down the Hudson River.
"Yikes," she said. "I wonder what happened to him," she replied.
"I'm sure we'll find out soon enough," I replied. I'd been sitting on Matt's taped confession for all this time. I'd toyed with releasing it, but the show was doing so well, I didn't want to take away from that. When things started to take a dip, I'd decided that would be the right time to release what I had. It would generate new interest in the series and propel it back into the news.
I also pushed the thought out of my mind that I no longer seemed interested in harming her career and these days was just thinking of ways to help it.
"I guess so," she said, switching off her phone.
"Have you heard from Miranda at all?" I asked her.
Her features twisted and she looked down. "No," she said sadly.
"That's a shame," I replied.
"Yeah," she said. "Especially because she was my only friend in the city." She let out a sigh, and I felt a twinge of guilt at the entire endeavor. Which was an odd thing to feel considering that Miranda had definitely backstabbed her own friend.
Whether she'd done that before or after their Thanksgiving fight was, I guess, the only question about her true character.
"Have you reached out to her?"
"I tried," Zoey said. "But even when we were filming on set, she wouldn't even speak to me between scenes. I didn't think that what happened between us was all that bad. Friends fight. I'm really shocked that she's holding this grudge for so long."
