Lucy picked out a pair of leggings, a tunic shirt, and panties. She darted behind the privacy screen and undressed until she was naked. Her nipples hardened and her body turned taut. He was right next to the screen. Less than two inches separated them. The throbbing within became pleasurably painful.

“Lucy.”

“Yes?”

He didn’t look over the screen but held up her bra, then draped it over the side. Lucy reached out, and their hands touched. Everything froze. The roughness of his scales sent goose bumps racing over her skin. They could’ve been getting dressed after stripping off their clothes and tumbling into bed together. He’d be the type of boyfriend or lover to sneak away from the party just to steal a moment alone with her away from the world. He’d also help her get dressed, handing her back her clothes while watching her with a loving gaze. The music from the backyard would muffle them and any noise they’d make. They were going to make noise.

“Yes or no, Lu?” The words sounded raw.

“Yes.”

Alex pushed the screen aside. His eyes were hooded with lust. He tore the comforter from the bed, grabbed a few pillows, and draped it all on the floor. Lucy went to the dresser. She took out a few condoms and tossed them. Alex lowered her down onto the soft comforter, crushing his body to hers. He was unashamed. As was she. She was left bare. She lay on her back.

Wantonly, Lucy spread her legs and revealed herself to him. He placed a hand on each of her knees and made slow circles on her skin. Alex nestled his face between her legs, the nearness of him overwhelming and captivating her. Delicious heat raced through her, setting everything aglow. She was so close. His mouth brushed against her sensitive, aching skin. Then she gripped the back of his hair and guided him to right…there…right there…right…there.

She moaned. Hands dug into her flesh, teeth nipping and tasting the hidden geometry of her body. She didn’t want to get there without him joining her. Lucy pulled him to her and captured Alex into a kiss. She tasted herself on his lips. They both turned over. She rose above him, kissing a trail down his chest, his stomach. She nipped at his waist, eliciting a startled laugh from him.

“I couldn’t help it. You look delicious,” she said. Her hand caressed the skin of his thigh. Then she took his sex into her palm. He lay panting, chest heaving under her attention. She lowered her nose and breathed in. Sea brine enveloped her and stole her thoughts. Desperate, she took his full, thick length into her mouth and hummed pleasurably. He writhed underneath her. She traced circles and triangles with her tongue on places on Alex where she’d only fantasized in her dreams.

“Please. I need you.”

She sheathed Alex. He gasped as she lowered herself onto him, letting him inside every part of her. As she rocked back and forth, he leaned up on his forearms to meet her. They joined together. His lips and tongue licked up and tasted the water of her skin. Their fevered breaths fueled their frantic, eager movements. The world spun on its center, their bodies in delicious harmony. She felt the sparks gather within her—the release building, building up, rising into the open sky…then shattering, and light exploded inside them both.

Chapter Twenty-One

The kettle whistled as Lucy opened the jar of tea and scooped the tea blend into the mug. The smell of sage, crushed rose petals, peppermint, and jasmine flowers wafted up while she poured boiling-hot water. Lucy twirled the spoon in the teacup. There wasn’t enough tea in the house to get the image of Alex worshipping every inch of her with his tongue. Every. Single. Inch. She still tingled from his contact even all these days later. Think about him later. You’ve got work to do. She settled at the table with Sirena and Callie, who had their own drinks.

“How are we doing?” Lucy asked. “Did everyone see Mom’s latest email?”

Sirena groaned.

“Please don’t remind me. I can’t even deal with her and Dad walking on those white sandy beaches. She has a sixth sense for making everyone feel jealous.”

“Next time, I’m wishing for a fully paid vacation.”

All three sisters nodded.

“Mom forwarded me job listings again,” Callie said. She held up her phone and showed Lucy the email. “I feel so unqualified just looking at these postings!”

Lucy sat up when she saw the first job title. “Hey, can you forward this email to me?”

“Sure.”

Lucy’s phone beeped with Callie’s forwarded email. She just stared at the subject line.

FW: Photography-Guest Faculty Position Meadowdale College

Could it be this easy? Alex would be perfect for this job. He could stay in the Grove. It was a flexible position, and he could travel but he could come home to— Lucy clicked her phone off.

The Grove wasn’t his home. The wish wasn’t going to give up on him so easily.

“I got kicked out of class,” Callie sighed. “Professor Analog didn’t like me texting.”

“You do know you’re paying to be in class, right?” Lucy explained. “Try not to get kicked out.”

Sirena shook her head. “I agree.”

“Listen, I have moves to make,” Callie said sharply. “I can’t pay my tuition if I don’t make money! I can’t run my business while my phone is on mute. Sirena, say something about your job.”
