He shakes his head at me.
I’m not worried about him knowing. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a more trustworthy man in this town than Doc. He might be under Victor’s control like everyone else, but there is no love lost between them.
“It’s been a while since I treated this one,” he says cryptically. “The obvious aside, it’s a relief to see her safe. I always worried about her.”

Voices float around me, but I can’t get a grasp on who is talking or what is going on.
I’m floating. Soaring high.
I’ve no idea how I got here. But it’s nice.
And I’m not alone. That’s the best bit.
Or is it?
What if it’s them?
My heart begins to race, my breathing increasing as I picture them.
Have they come for me?
Is that why everything is dark?
I thought I was safe in Reid’s basement.
But it was all a trick. He was just holding me. Biding his time before handing me back over to those sick monsters.
I won’t survive them this time. I barely did the last time.
Tears burn my eyes as I fight to keep control.
My breathing is erratic, the breaths I’m taking aren’t going to my lungs. Nothing is working.
If I can’t even breathe, how am I going to be able to fight them off?
You’re not.
This time, they are going to kill you.
“No,” I scream, and everything only gets worse a few seconds later when hot hands land on my arm. “Get off me. No. Please. Don’t touch me.”
“Little dove, it’s just me. It’s okay. You’re okay.”
That voice. I know that voice.
A hot, firm hand holds mine.
“Reid and I won’t let anything happen to you, okay. You’re safe.”
“JD?” I blurt, something familiar triggering in my head.
“I’m right here. Are you allergic to seafood, baby?” he asks.
Seafood.
