That startled a laugh out of her.

“Maybe a werewolf?” Brennon tipped his head to the side as if considering her. “A selkie?”

Rowan was staring at Brennon, but then his lips twitched.

“A what?” Tweedledum asked.

Izabel snorted in amusement.

“Shut up,” Camo Cast snapped. “You think you’re funny, but you ain’t. This woman is born of sinners and murderers. Her people flaunt their evil ways! She’s doing Satan’s work!”

Her borderline-hysterical amusement was snuffed out as she processed his words. Born of sinners, her people…

He was talking about her parents being in a menage. A very open, public menage. Did that mean… Panic ripped through her.

“Where are my parents? What did you do to them?” Izabel strained against the zip-ties. The plastic dug into her forearms, and her fingers tingled as she cut off her own circulation.

“You can’t protect them. You’ll all burn in hell.”

“Fuck you,” she snarled. “What did you do to my parents?”

Camo Cast grinned. “They’re already dead.”

Izabel’s heart stopped.

“No, they’re not,” Brennon countered.

Izabel couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, but she looked at Brennon.

Brennon was watching Tweedledum. Izabel focused on him too. The big man looked utterly confused. As if he had no idea what Camo Cast was talking about.

“We shot them in their bed as they were fornicating,” Camo Cast said with relish. “Locked in sin as they died, so they’ll be sure to burn.”

“In their bed?” Izabel’s voice trembled, but her mind was working feverishly. “But they always have the bedroom door locked!”

“Fucking broke it down and caught ’em in the act,” Camo Cast declared. “They begged for their lives.”

Izabel dropped her chin to her chest, relief flooding her.

“Izabel,” Brennon said, “don’t listen to them!”

Izabel’s cheeks were wet with the tears she’d shed, but when she lifted her face, her expression was calm. “Don’t worry. I know he’s lying. They don’t have a bedroom door.”

Her parents had a whole wing of their house that served as their private space. A lovely suite of rooms, with plenty of both individual and shared spaces. A small round sitting room acted as a sort of foyer once you passed into that wing of the house, with the various dressing rooms, bathrooms, and closets opening off it. The bedroom itself was down a short hall and had an open archway rather than a door.

Camo Cast’s face went slack. He looked exceptionally stupid.

He can’t be this stupid.

That thought tempered her relief at the surety her parents were okay.

“You think the demons you bow to will protect you,” Camo Cast snarled. “You think your society and its power will save you, but it won’t.”

Your society?

Oh fuck.

It took everything she had not to look at Brennon and Rowan. Did this moron know about the Trinity Masters? How? Her parents’ poly relationship wasn’t a secret. But the reason for the triad relationship was a secret, as was the fact it was an arranged marriage.
