Her lips part as if she’s going to argue, but at the last minute, she thinks better of it.

She stares up at me, her big blue eyes wide and hopeful.

“Maybe you should show them,” she suggests, leaning closer.

ALANA

Istare up at him, my heart racing, my fingers tightening their grip on his thigh.

I want him.

No. Ineedhim.

For five years I’ve dealt with him holding back, with his rejection. But it seems that my time here without him might have been the final straw because my patience has run out.

Days of imagining what our life together could be like, hours telling myself what I would do the moment I saw him again, they’ve all come down to this.

There’s movement behind me, but I ignore it. I don’t care what they’re doing, if they’re watching. My only focus is the man in front of me.

My husband.

The man who rescued me.

The only man who’s ever protected me.

“Please,” I whimper, leaning so close the heat of his lips warm mine.

He’s right here. Right fucking here, but still, he holds back.

“Mav,” I cry.

“Fucking pussy,” JD scoffs behind us, making Mav’s chest catch.

He wants it. I can see his desire burning bright in his eyes. It’s been there since I shamelessly lifted my top and showed him my new jewelry. Was it a low blow? Yeah, most definitely. But I figured he deserved a little treat after being locked up, and I’m not exactly opposed to forcing his hand. I’ve tried it many, many times before. One time it’s going to break him, I know it is.

Finally, he moves. It’s slight. So fucking slight, but it’s there, and it makes my breath catch.

Time stops. I don’t breathe. I don’t do anything.

And the second his soft lips press against the corner of my mouth, all the air rushes from my lungs.

My eyes shutter as I make the most of the moment. It’s innocent and nowhere near what I really need. But still, it’s everything.

My hand moves of its own accord, sliding up his thigh, but the second I get within dangerous territory, his clamps down on top of it, stopping my progress.

Separating our lips, he rests his head against mine instead.

His eyes remain closed as he sucks in deep breaths through his nose.

Other than the sizzling of Reid’s cooking, the room is blanketed in silence. The way my skin tingles tells me why. They’re watching with almost as much anticipation as I feel.

After long, agonizing seconds, Mav’s eyelids flutter open, and his tired, dark eyes find mine.

There’s an apology in them that makes my stomach knot uncomfortably.

“Is that it?” JD barks. “She’s been gagging for it for years. Be a man and take it, bro. Ow,” JD complains, and I look back just in time to see him rubbing his shoulder, where Reid must have hit him.
