But with her, it had been effortless. Most things had been effortless, the passion, the intimacy, the joy, but when the true test of what we had came up, we fell to pieces.
“Sir?” she called again, and I purposefully left my gaze for a few more seconds on her lips before I returned my attention to her eyes.
“You decide,” I replied mostly because I hadn’t retained a single word of what she had said when narrating the available dish options to me.
“Alright, sir,” she said, straightened, and went on her way. I returned my attention to my phone, knowing we had drawn quite the attention due to my delayed response.
I couldn’t help but admit that I somewhat enjoyed taunting her.
Especially with an audience watching. But I didn’t want to prolong their interest and attention so the moment she went out of sight I tried my best to put her out of my mind and went back to work.

CALLIE
Ileaned against the counter and released a heavy sigh the moment I returned. It was part relief and part anxiety and it immensely amused Julianne.
“What is it?” she asked as she prepared the trays to be served. “Already tired? The shift just started.”
“No,” I told her. “Just some other personal stuff.”
She turned to look at the conversing three in the cabin and then gave me a knowing glance. “The boss looks fantastic, doesn’t he? I’d expected him to be older but my God he looks so incredibly young. Almost like he’s your age.”
“He’s older than me,” I said without thinking as I retrieved some bottles of wine and her gaze slightly widened.
“How do you know?”
I was a bit startled by the question and even more so by what my answer was going to be. But I was able to think of and cling to the one that most easily made sense.
“I know about his business. He’s pretty notable.”
“He better be,” she said. “Given that he’s able to afford this on a whim. I heard some rumors from Peter that he’s a billionaire. I wonder where all you youngsters are getting all this money from. Oh, to be a kid from your generation.” She laughed. “Maybe I would be riding in one of these as well.”
“Would you ever splurge your money on a private plane?” I asked, surprised.
“Oh yes,” she said. “I’ve worked on a yacht as well and that too I would own. In fact, that was how I met my husband. Anyway, and again, yes. It’s a great experience and plus why would anyone want to go through all the ridiculousness of commercial flights? Rude as hell passengers, crying babies, lack of space. Please honey, if I could afford it, I would be living it.”
I couldn’t say I disagreed with her so I simply just smiled and continued on with my work. She went on to serve the female passenger while I got ready to remain in place and have everything she needed to serve Lucas when the time came because there was no way in hell I was going to put myself through those mocking piercing gray eyes again.
When she returned, she seemed to need a moment to catch her breath.
“Jeesh,” she slightly fanned herself. “That boss is something else. He was on a call and the way he spoke, his voice was like butter.”
I was so surprised at her comments that all I could do was stare at her. Amused, she brushed me aside and grabbed the next tray to serve.
Soon she was gone once again, and I couldn’t help but stare after her as she went ahead to serve him. When she returned, I shared my dilemma with her.
“The boss didn’t make up his mind on what he wanted to eat so perhaps pick whatever you think is best. I'll go out with the drinks menu.”
Alright,” she said, and I went on my way.
Soon enough we were both in the cabin with her speaking to Lucas while I served the other two with the refreshments they desired.
As she spoke, something caught my attention so even when I started to move away, I couldn’t help but be slightly concerned.
“What did he choose?” I asked.
“He didn’t like the oysters option so he went with Wagyu beef.”
