Love is a weakness.
No matter how many times I thought of it, I ended up with the same conclusion. My papa was right, I wasn’t in love with Lilianna, but she’d become someone important to me. I was vulnerable now because my enemies would try to use her against me. The only way to stop that from happening was to get to them before they got to me.
“Boss.” Marina pulled me away from my thoughts. “You should come to the dining room for breakfast.”
“Is she up yet?”
I didn’t need to clarify for her to know who I was speaking of. “I’m not sure.”
“Wake her up and bring her down for breakfast.”
“Yes, boss.” Marina nodded and trucked away from the living room.
I was in the dining room for ten minutes when Lilianna joined me. Her lavender scent followed her into the room. It took a lot of restraint from me not to close my eyes and inhale her sweet scent.
She stalled at the other end of the room, sweeping me with her beautiful hazel eyes. She looked breathtaking this morning. Her long auburn sat on her head in a messy bun, and she was wearing a tightly fitted white dress that reached her ankle. The dress covered most of her body; still, I was completely enthralled with the way it molded into curves.
Her features were delicate. I could almost feel how soft they were in my palms.
Her nipples were hard; they strained against her dress, begging for my attention. My little wife needed to take a lesson on wearing bras. She was making it hard for me to focus on anything else with how gorgeous she was.
I didn’t mind, though. She was a welcome distraction. Never mind that the table was filled up with different breakfast options, I wanted to push everything down, flip her over the table, and fuck her raw. I wanted to make sweet love to her, over and over again, until my cock was bruised with her tightness.
Holy fuck.I felt my cock start to harden in my pants, and I clenched my fist to hold myself from bringing my thoughts to reality.
Lilianna took a seat to my right and smiled at me. “Good morning, husband.”
Husband?I narrowed my eyes at her, taking in the sudden change in her behavior. My wife wasn’t the kind of woman who would smile at me first or call mehusbandthat easily. She was playing a game with me, probably trying to win my trust so she could do something naughty.
A smile touched my lips, and I decided to play along. “Hope you had a good night, wife?”
Her smile dissipated, replaced with a red tint on her cheeks. She blinked at me rapidly, and her chest stilled as if she was breathless. “My night was…okay.”
“Okay?”
“Spectacular.” She quickly looked away from me and started to fill her plate with food. “Do you go to work or something?”
I leaned back in my chair, surprised she was taking her game a step further by striking up an actual conversation with me. “Only when I want to.”
“Oh.” She ate a spoonful of cereal. “You haven’t introduced me to your brothers. Shouldn’t you do that since I’m part of the family now?”
I raked my finger into my hair. She was right. I needed to introduce her to the boys and get her settled with the new world she now belonged to, but I had a more pressing matter to take care of right now. Maybe I could do that after I’d taken care of the Italians. “You’ll be introduced soon.”
“How soon?”
“Soon enough.”
She shrugged. “If you say so.” She scooped another spoonful of cereal and brought it to her mouth but stopped before it touched her lips. She stared at me and then the empty plate in front of me. “Aren’t you gonna eat?”
“I’m filled just watching you eat.”
She widened her eyes. “Is the food poisoned?”
“Who knows?”
A laugh broke from her chest, and it echoed around the room. It was the first time I’d heard her laugh so heartily; the edges of her eyes wrinkled, and her almost closed eyes sparkled. I would take a picture of this moment, frame it and place it on my nightstand if I could.
Although she was faking it, or so she thought, my flower was blooming, and she hadn’t realized it yet. Watching her smile made my blood hum in a pleasant way.
