"Come, darling," Sin said, startling her.

"He's gone."

"Aye, he's gone, and we must leave too." He took her hand.

"I pretended to love him. He never would have come looking for me if I'd had the courage to tell him I never did. I led him on."

"You did nothing of the kind. He was a fool for not seeing the truth before his eyes. Come."

He helped her into the car. "Where will we go?" she asked when he was seated beside her.

"Jock's, for now, while I figure some things out," he said, pulling out onto the dirt road. "Call Gabriel."

The female voice came through the speakers on the dashboard. "Calling Gabriel."

A phone rang several times before being answered. "Sin."

"I've got Charlotte in the car with me. We're leaving the cottage. Her ex-fiancé showed up. One of Sokolov's men took him out on the cliffs. He's dead. I need his rental car returned to Edinburgh and I need a Michael Adams to be on a flight returning to the States."

"Are you all right?" the angel asked.

"Aye. He was the target. Not us."

"You need to come to the Tower."

"Tomorrow," Sin said.

"Very well. Where's the car?" Gabriel asked.

"At the cottage."

"Consider it done."

Sin pressed a button on the steering wheel, hanging up. He pulled up in front of Jock's house and turned the car off. "We should go to the Tower right now," Charlie said, getting out of the car.

"Tomorrow."

"Why wait?" she asked. He handed her the box with the prints in it.

"Because I don't know what to expect when we get there." He grabbed their bag and went to the front door, knocking.

Jock answered, letting them in. "Ye'll have heard the gunshots."

"Aye. Someone shooting at the seals I'm sure," Sin said, setting down the bag and taking the box from Charlie.

"Did Ronnie visit ye?"

"Aye. He took a peek around."

"And?" Jock asked.

"And nothing. If you need more information, you'll have to ask your brother," Sin said dryly. "Can we stay the night? The cottage isn't safe for Charlotte."

"Aye." Jock started the kettle. "I was getting ready for my tea. I'll set two more plates."

"Thank you, Jock, but I'm not hungry. I think I'll go lie down," Charlotte said.

"Show her to a room, Sin."
