When I arrived, I asked her into my office again. Though this time, not for hot office sex.
I sat down on the couch in my office and she followed suit, sitting next to me. She’d been reading in her room, and she wore her leggings with a yellow wool cardigan. When I’d ushered her in here, my eyes had been glued to her ass, and I couldn’t stop seeing the image of that amazing ass being smacked and us fucking, in this office, over on that chair, only recently.
I hoped this would go well, because,Jesus Christ, I’d take her again, right fucking now. I sat facing her, my arm over the back cushions.
“What’s up?” she asked nervously.
“Zoe, relax, baby. It’s nothing bad.”
“Oh, good.”
“I’ve told my mom. Everything. I had no choice—it was just time.”
“Oh!” She didn’t look angry as I’d expected. “That’s a relief.”
“Yeah, for me too.”
She really did look relieved, putting a hand on her chest. “Yes. I’m glad we can go into the new year without lies…but I think I’ll need to—”
“Zoe, there’s something else.”
She stopped, staring at me with big eyes. “What?”
“I want you and me to be together, for real.”
Her chest heaved with sudden emotion and her eyes widened, locked onto mine. “Really?” There was disbelief, pleasure, and utter excitement in her voice, all at the same time. “I’m so flattered, so happy…oh, Anders. For real?”
I smiled and took her hand in mine, swiping my thumb over her knuckles. “Yes. It’s just, I’m still going to South America, and I want you to join me.”
Zoe sank back, falling against the backrest and pulling her hand away. All the enthusiasm left her body. “What?”
“Just, think about it. We could travel together, and we could see so much—”
“You want me to come to South America with you?”
“Yes.” I smiled, willing her to just agree. If she’d just come with me, everything would be solved. “We could kill several birds with one stone.”
Zoe continued to glare at me. She didn’t seem extremely excited about the idea, but maybe she needed time to process it.
“Honestly,” she started after several moments of silence, “I don’t know what to say…” Her gaze dropped to the floor thoughtfully.
“It’s easy, say yes.”
She looked at me carefully. “So, ifIaskedyouto stay here with me, would you?”
“Well, no. That’s the thing—”
“So, it’s conditional then?” she interrupted me. “You want to be with me, but only if I follow you?” Her demeanor had changed from flattered to pissed. “What about my business? My family? My life?”
I reached for her hand again, touching her thigh instead, when she pulled it away. “Zoe, you can set up a grooming business anywhere. Don’t you see, us being together is worth so much more than any business. Besides, I can and will support you for the rest of your life. You won’t need to struggle anymore.”
“Eh…” Her mouth was slightly agape in disbelief. “You think I struggle building up a business that I’m passionate about purely for financial reasons?”
I paused. This was getting out of hand. “Okay, hang on, Zoe. When you put it like that it sounds—”
I was interrupted by a knock sounding out through the penthouse. I heard the dogs getting excited, rushing to the front door.
Fuck.Dax.
