How the fuck is the cunt so lucky? He’s like a cat with nine lives! I was hoping to see him as bald as a coot, but no. Warrick, the little fucktard, had to be a dick again. Saying that though, it was funny seeing him get some payback for his shit, and losing his hair is the best payback ever—I can’t believe it took his eyebrows off too.
I storm through the front door, scaring the crap out of Adam. “Miss Whitlock, I’m so glad I found you,” he pants, his eyes frantic.
“What’s up?” I ask, dropping my bag by the door in the hallway, the anxiety coming off him is rolling in waves.
“Erm, Mr. Tickles has got out,” he blurts, eyes terrified.
“He can’t have gotten out, the enclosure is massive,” I say with horror. “He never goes the length of it. Have you checked inside?”
“Yes, but erm,” he mutters, wringing his hands together. “The staff are worried.”
“The staff and yourself are trained to deal with the animals we house here, so why are you so worried about him?” I snap.
“But—” he starts.
“I’ll do an enclosure walk with you, when was the last time he was fed?” I ask.
“This morning Aaron managed a successful feed with him, so he isn’t due until the day after tomorrow,” he says, his body relaxing a little.
“Have you done a walk over the bridge?” I ask, confused as to how he could have gotten out. “You and I both know he likes to play hide and seek; he could show then?”
His eyes widen in fear at that, and I chuckle. Spinning on my heel, I head out the front door and around the side of the house. The calls of the animals sound eerie to most people, but to me it’s as if they’re all trying to sing like a choir. I briskly walk through the enclosures until the huge center one comes into view. I smile as I see the other workers standing around looking like they’re facing down the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
“You three?” I bark at the three men, who jump to attention. “Take the north end, and remember to keep an eye on where you put your feet.”
“The rest of you, take the outer walls and do the same, if you lose a limb, that’s not my problem,” I growl, heading to the gate that leads to the walkway. “Radio?”
One is handed to me. As I get to the gate, I undo the lock and step inside, keeping my eyes on the water to my right. We are halfway up the walkway when I spot something beneath it. “What time was he fed?”
“First thing this morning, he’s the first on our list,” he says with confidence.
I grab the radio off my belt, turning the dial to all channels, “Stand down, I’ve got him, he’s resting under the walkway.” I hear the sigh of relief through the radio, and I chuckle. I don’t blame them, but there is no way in hell I’m getting rid of him. We head back, and I chuckle as I hear movement. We get to the gate, and I usher Adam through and close the gate. After I click the lock into place, I step back from the fence.
“Ah! Too late fuckface, stop being a dick,” I shout and laugh at my cutie, Adam shakes his head as he heads off to do whatever it is they do at this time of night.
I head back to the house knowing all is well, my stomach growling. The walk back was a quick one, and I push my way through the door and rush into the kitchen, going straight to the fridge, but again, my parents have forgotten they have another person in the house and didn’t fill it when they fucked off on their travels. Yanking out my phone with a growl, I order a pizza before heading into the front room where I plop down on the huge sectional. This is the only time I’ll spend time downstairs when my parents aren’t here. I scroll through my socials, not finding anything interesting on there. I send Lux another message and I chew on my bottom lip as I read what I sent.
Me:
Hey, you okay? I’m worried because you shot off earlier and I haven’t seen you since. xoxo
Lux:
I’m okay, yeah, sorry about that, babe. I was in a weird mood all day. xoxo
Me:
I can’t believe you’re moving :( I’m going to miss you so much. xoxo
Lux:
I know, I don’t want to leave you, but my parents are so excited. Plus, you know, I’ve always wanted out of this place. We’re setting off in the morning, will you stop by? xoxo
Me:
I wouldn’t miss it. See you in the morning. xoxo
