Page 29 of His Darkest Desire
Vex clenched his jaw. She was here for one reason—to give birth to his child. That required no attraction. He possessed tonics to induce his own arousal, were it necessary. This was a bargain, a transaction. He should not have felt anything for this human.
But his fingers flexed with the urge to reach out and touch her, to divest her of her covering, to draw her closer so he could feel that body against his.
Shadows guard my breath, what has overcome me?
Vex forced his gaze back to hers. “What are you wearing?”
She gave him a droll look. “A blanket.”
He matched her expression. “Why are you clad in my bedding?”
Kinsley rolled her eyes. “It’s not like I have anything else to wear. Oh, but wait, I don’t need clothes for what you intend, do I?”
Gritting his teeth, Vex hooked his fingers beneath the top of the blanket, between her breasts. His knuckles pressed against her soft skin. Her breath hitched, and her glare faltered.
“No, you do not,” he said.
She caught his wrist.
He dipped his head closer to hers. “You prefer to remain covered, then?”
“I would prefer that you don’t touch me at all.”
Her words struck him with a weight and a sting far greater than should’ve been possible. He had endured hatred for much of his life before his imprisonment, had taken it in stride so many times, had never allowed himself to be brought low by it. But coming from her…
She is no one. Her words are unimportant but for the word that bound her to me—Yes.
Yet he wanted to touch her. Wanted to feel her. More, he wanted her to crave his touch. Why? Why was he being plagued by such desires? Why should he have wanted anything more from her than the offspring that would set him free?
Why did his every interaction with this female make the wisps’ advice ring truer?
Exhaling slowly, he released the blanket and withdrew his hand. His skin was immediately cold with want for her heat. “It has been brought to my attention that you’ve not eaten in some time. This must be remedied immediately. Come.”
Kinsley frowned. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”
Vex closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Have I failed to make clear how little I enjoy repeating myself, human?”
“Do you think I enjoy repeating myself?”
He dropped his hand and narrowed his eyes. “You must eat. Now.”
“Just go away and leave me alone.”
He growled as he lunged at Kinsley, snatched her off her feet, and threw her over his shoulder. Locking her in place with an arm around her thighs and a hand planted securely on her round backside, he turned and walked toward the door.
“You asshole!” she shrieked.
She writhed and struggled, striking his back and voicing her protests at excessive volume directly in his ear, but he found himself able to focus only upon how her body felt, her enticing scent, and the excitement coursing through him.
Without the aid of any tonic, his cock grew erect, straining against the confines of his trousers.
As though dealing with her wasn’t difficult enough.
He sensed the wisps following as he carried Kinsley to the kitchen. They spread around him, their voices silent but their gazes heavy, when he deposited her onto one of the chairs at the table.
She immediately moved to get up.
Vex jabbed a finger at her, baring his fangs. “I will bind you to that chair.”
