“How did you know that this is what I will look like?” I lift my gaze from the masterpiece created by my boyfriend.
“I hoped you’d like it and just imagined your face. I know your features, and... Anyway, I have another version on hand in case I was wrong. With your eyes rolling because of how much you dislike my idea of a date.”
“Do you really?”
“Nah. I’m joking,” he chuckles and grabs the drawing to place it on the side before dragging me back into his arms to lie down with our faces directed at the starry sky with an occasional firefly coming into our view. I snuggle to his chest, slightly choked up with emotions swirling inside me. Is it possible to burst from happiness?
“It’s in color,” I mutter.
“Hmm?” Aidan hums in question and moves my hair back to glance down at me.
“The drawing. It was in color. The ones I saw before, and the glimpses I got whenever you’re working on something... They were all in black. Or dark gray. I didn’t see you ever work with color.”
“That’s because there’s no darkness in my mind whenever I think about you, Claire. You’re my color. You actually make me excited about my days. I didn’t even know just how bleak my life was before you literally slammed into me with your light and your goodness.”
“Stop it,” I whisper, my lip wobbling. “I’m just a person.”
“Maybe for others. But for me, you’re so much more,” Aidan says confidently before moving to the side and putting his face lower so he can gaze straight into my eyes. “I know it’s far too soon to say it, but I think I’m in love with you.”
My breath hitches before I can finally share my own feelings. “I’m in love with you too.”
CHAPTER VI
WE START OFF BY KISSING slowly. Aidan’s lips touch mine so tenderly. Like I’m made of glass, and he’s worried that I’ll break if he presses any harder. But I need more.
I lower my body to his and flip us both so I’m fully sprawled on him. The strained sound that comes out of his throat when our hips touch motivates me to try something new. I lean back and move my legs on each side of his thighs to straddle him, and quickly get out of my shirt. The chilly evening wind cools my heated skin and makes me shiver.
Aidan’s hands move up to get a hold of my hips as he looks up at me with so much desire and love that it melts my heart.
“You’re so beautiful, it’s fucking insane,” he rasps, and I smile genuinely, knowing that he truly thinks so.
I move down a bit to help him get out of his shirt next and press down on his chest when he’s trying to sit up and kiss me. His brows furrow in confusion, but all I do is shake my head at him and smile tentatively. I told him how I felt, but now it’s time I show him.
I bend down to kiss his neck and then move lower, stopping right above his navel. My hands shake with nerves and excitement when I grab onto his belt.
“Claire, I don’t know what you’re... You don’t have to...” Aidan’s voice reaches my ear, and I want to laugh at his failed attempt to try to play a gentleman again. He wants this just as much as I do. I can hear it in the sharp intake of breath he takes.
