I pull her in for a hug, and she freezes up for a second, as if shocked I’m hugging her but then she softens and wraps her arms around me and hugs me back. “What are besties for if not for covering your back?”

“Thank you,” I tell her gratefully as we pull apart and continue to class. I pull out my phone and tap a quick message to Damon to tell him it’s sorted and that he can pick me up from Vee’s.

“Talking of the dickmatiser,” Vee says, grinning and gesturing with her head. I follow her gaze to find Archer waiting outside my English class.

I tilt my head at him in question.

“What are you doing here?”

He leans up off the door frame and gestures inside the room. “I swapped all our schedules around so that one of us is with you all the time.”

I groan as he follows Vee and I into the classroom. Freddy, a guy who sits next to me in English, looks up in fright when Archer drops his bag down on his desk. “Move,” he commands.

Freddy swallows and jumps from his seat like his arse is on fire. “Seats all yours,” he says shakily before he scuttles off to an empty desk at the front of the class.

“You’re an arsehole,” I comment, with a roll of my eyes at Archer, as I take my seat next to him. “Oh, can you drop me at Vee’s after school? We’re having a pamper session at her house. Some girly time.”

“Sure,” he nods.

That was easy. I was worried for a minute that he’d insist one of them stay with us.

Archer dropsme at Vee’s after school. Vee offered to take me home with her, but he insisted on driving me there, saying it was safer.

“I’ll see you later,” I tell him as I undo my seatbelt.

He leans over the centre console and pulls me in for a kiss. “Be good.”

“Aren’t I always?” I reply with a grin as I climb from the car. My stomach lurches in discomfort at my deceit. I wave him off and when I’m sure he’s gone, I head inside Vee’s house and up to her room.

“Hey,” I greet as I drop on the bed beside her. She’s sitting watching television. “You’re obsessed with this show,” I tease, seeing she’s watching Love Island again.

“I wanted to watch it again. It was so good when Connor confronted her last night.”

My phone rings and I pull it out of my pocket.

“I’m outside,” Damon says when I answer.

“I’ll be five mins, I just need to change,” I tell him. I climb off the bed and pull out a change of clothes. I could not risk turning up to the private clinic in my uniform.

Vee pauses her programme, and she nods her head, chewing on her lip. “Damon?”

“Yep,” I admit, tugging my t-shirt over my head. “Nothing’s going on between us, before you ask.”

Vee holds her hands up. “Hey, I wasn’t going to ask. Hoes before bros and all that. Whatever it is, I know you’ll tell me when you’re ready to.”

“I will, I promise,” I agree as I lean down and wrap my arm around her neck and hug her. “I’ll be back in about an hour and a bit.”

“Sure thing.”

I dashoutside to find Damon waiting in his convertible, looking every inch the bad boy, with his shades on and Digga D pumping from the car.

“Ready princess?”

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I say, as I climb into the passenger seat and buckle in.
