He arches a brow as he watches me fight with the belt, my anger rising. “Oh, and what are we busy doing that doesn’t involve your boyfriend?” He leans over and takes my belt from me. I lean as far back into my seat as I can to create space between us. When he gets too close, he befuddles my brain. He easily pulls the belt out and slots it secure.

“I’m going to a HBH house party with Rubes.”

He snickers. “I don’t think so, precious. “

I glare across the car at him as we weave through the Bay towards my house. “Excuse me! You don’t get to say what I do and don’t do.”

He sighs, shaking his head. “You think you’ll be welcome now? You’re an HBA student and dating an Ace. It’s not safe.”

It’s my turn to snicker. Not safe! “I will be perfectly safe. I’m a Silver. People respect and fear my family on our side of the Bay. No one would dare touch me.”

He wrinkles his brows and tuts. “I said no, Mills. There’s no way my girlfriend would go to a HBH party when she’s with me.”

I cock a brow. Who does he think he is telling me where I can and cannot go? Is it not bad enough that he’s monopolising all my study time and having me at his beck and call, like some lovesick groupie? “Well, I’m going.” I give him a firm nod of my head, as if to say that’s the end of the matter.

“Okay, well, if you’re going, then so am I.”

My head whips up. What did he just say?

“Come again?”

He smirks at me. “You want to come again? Jesus, precious, you are a greedy girl.”

“Hardy-har,” I deadpan. Always ready with a funny jibe. “I could swear I heard you say you were coming with me?”

“I did.”

“You can’t.”

“Watch me, precious. If you insist on going, then you leave me with no choice.”

I open my mouth to protest. Damn. I’ve backed myself into this corner. “Okay, fine! I’ll let my one and only friend down and tell her I’m not going, happy?”

He doesn’t reply at first, instead he smiles to himself and bites at that plump bottom lip of his. “Oh, you’re going, seeing as you made such a song and dance about it. I’ll be right there by your side, reminding everyone who you belong to.”

I blink, realising he’s pulled up right outside my house and my heart stutters in panic. “What the hell? You know you drop me off in the lane!”

There’s a knock on my car window, and I yelp, jumping in my seat. Great! My dad waits outside my car, his eyes fixed on the guy beside me. Blowing out a big breath, I open my passenger window. He leans into the car, resting his arms on the window frame.

“I was thinking you were hiding him away on purpose.” He looks from me across to Seb, assessing him. Weighing him up. “Mr Collings. I have heard a lot about you, and none of it is good.”

“Mr Silver. I picked Milly up from work,” he tells my father, ignoring his comment completely.

“My daughter is precious to me,” my dad starts to say, and I groan.

“Dad, don’t!”

He shushes me and I place my hands over my face.

“She’s a good girl. Good grades. Good values. She has a bright future ahead of her. “

Seb nods his head, looking out at the distance before returning his eyes to my fathers. “I know that, sir. Milly is one of a kind.”

My dad nods his head, continuing to frown at him. I want the ground to open up and swallow me whole. This is what I’d been trying to avoid up to now. Why did he have to drive right up to the house? I was so busy arguing with him I didn’t even notice until we were here.

“I was just telling Milly that I think I should go with her to the house party she’s been invited to on Friday.” He smiles across at me. “Now she’s an HBA student. I fear her old crowd may not be so welcoming.”

Dad nods his head in agreement. The hostile frown still firmly fixed on his face. My dad is a big guy. He can be quite intimidating when he wants to be, and he didn’t get where he has today without using that to his advantage.
