“Sadly, you’re right.” Pushing my still hard cock back into my underwear, I pulled up my pants and zipped them. A moment later, I was back in stealth mode, ready to pounce on whoever was messing with me.

Once I was certain the house was exactly as I wanted it to be, we gathered up our tools. “We’ve got two more safehouses to visit,” I explained to her.

“Good grief. How many places do you have in this town?” She got into the passenger side and put on her seatbelt as I tossed the bags in the back and moved to open the garage door.

A few moments later, I backed out of the driveway. “I own a lot of places in this town.” I’d gone back to her previous question, though I didn’t know for sure if she really wanted an answer. “This is our city, you know? I own the whole fucking metroplex.”

Elisa laughed and reached for my hand, which I gave to her. “I guess I meant how many safehouses do you have.”

“I’m honestly not sure, but they each serve a different purpose. Don’t worry, beautiful. You’ll see how this all fits together soon enough.” I raised her hand to my lips and kissed it, hoping that answer satisfied her. I never liked to explain myself to other people. I preferred it when people just trusted me and went along with what I had planned.

Without asking anything else, Elisa went with me to the next two safe houses. They both had similar layouts, similar ages, and similar situations where they were located in quiet neighborhoods away from the other houses. I’d chosen these locations for a reason, and soon enough, they were all going to suit a purpose, one way or another.

With our tasks complete, we headed back to the original safe house, where I’d left Alex and Janis. Elisa was exhausted. She could hardly keep her eyes open on the way over. I wished she could rest. Hopefully, with everything checked off my list for the night, we could get some sleep and then put the second half of my plan into effect the next day.

Before I even opened the door from the garage, I heard a commotion, and fear that something had gone wrong bubbled up in my chest. The two of us rushed into the bedroom where we’d left Alex.

“You shall pay for what you’ve done!” Janis’s tone was unlike anything I’d ever heard out of the usually mild-mannered butler.

Alex lay shirtless on the bed, his arms and legs bound to the metal head and footboard. His eyes were wild as he stared at us, his hair messy, and sweat covering his body. The gag was still in his mouth, but half a roll of duct tape seemed to be holding it in place, the sticky silver substance wound around Alex’s head a dozen times.

Janis stood next to a car battery. Jumper cables ran from the battery to Alex, each end fastened to the man’s exposed nipples.

“What the fuck?” I wasn’t sure if I should try to help Alex or laugh. “Janis, you badass!”

“I was trying to be kind to the bastard, letting him use the restroom and have a bite to eat, when he tried to get the drop on me. I remembered what you said, sir, and I wanted to make sure he understood that he must stay here, no matter what. Now, I’m teaching him to mind his manners.”

Biting back a snicker, I said, “Well, Janis, do what you must. Just don’t kill him, okay?”

“Of course not, sir. I know what I’m doing.” Janis gave me a sure nod.

“Damn, Janis. I thought you were just a kind, soft-spoken man. I’m shocked.” Elisa’s eyes were almost as wide as her brother’s.

“I am most of the time, Miss Elisa, but your brother is a heathen, and he needs to be taught a lesson. He should learn not to fuck with the Petrov family.” Janis tilted his head to the side in finality.

Elisa cleared her throat. “Good luck, Janis. Teaching that asshole a lesson might take a while.”

Alex mumbled in protest, looking at his sister with desperation in his eyes, but she didn’t budge.

“Don’t worry, Miss Elisa,” Janis continued with a content smile. “I’m a very patient man.”

CHAPTER25

ELISA

My brother had quieted down a bit by the next day when Daemon was ready to put the rest of his plan into effect. I still didn’t quite understand what it was he was going to do, but I figured I didn’t have to. He would either explain it to me or he wouldn’t. I just had to do whatever he told me to do and try not to fuck it up.

We sat on the couch in the safe house, him contemplating exactly how to word the message he was about to send, me watching him intently. The vein in his temple throbbed slightly, his arms so tight, I could see the outline of every muscle. Sometimes I still couldn’t believe I’d found my dark angel—and he was hot as hell.

“All right,” he said with a nod. “I’m going to text each of my brothers individually the same message. Then, we’ll wait and see what happens.”

I nodded, not getting it still but accepting that it didn’t matter.

He sent the messages to his three brothers. “I’ve got Alex La Rosa at the safe house. Tell no one, and do not make contact. I’ll tell you the rest of the plan later.”

Three times, I watched him hit send, and then I stared at him, waiting for him to say more. When he didn’t, I finally asked, “Is that it? Really?”

He nodded, a crooked grin sliding into place across his handsome face. “That’s it.”
