“You’re a fucking monster.” Daemon spoke the words slowly, all of the revelations finally sinking in.

Lillian’s laughter rang out as loudly as the bullet that had ended my father. “I’m just fucking getting started, son.” Her hand reached out, latching onto my hair, and she pulled me toward her, pressing the gun against my temple as she did so.

“No!” I shouted, trying to break free of her, but she pushed the gun against the side of my head even harder.

“Shut the fuck up, little girl, or I’ll send you to a reunion with your father in hell.” Lillian’s breath fanned over my cheek, and I knew she wasn’t fucking kidding. She’d kill me without hesitation. If she could take out my father so easily, she sure as hell wouldn’t mind killing me.

“Kill them all!” she shouted, and once again, the warehouse exploded with gunshots. One of the SUVs that had come with the reinforcements pulled in next to where we were standing. I glanced in Daemon’s direction, but he couldn’t move toward her because of the massive amount of gunfire being unloaded at him in particular. If he moved from behind cover, he’d be dead.

“Run!” I shouted at him, but he only stared at me, wide-eyed.

The last thing on earth I wanted was to be taken prisoner again. How many times had I been kidnapped now? I couldn’t even count. Instinct told me to do my best to break free. What was that saying? “Never let them take you to a second location”?

I wanted to stay there and fight or maybe even force her to shoot me right there so that I wasn’t valuable to her anymore.

But I also knew that Daemon would come for me. He’d find a way to outsmart his bitch mother and save me. He’d done it before. Even when the odds were stacked against him, he’d gotten in, found me, and gotten out—more than once. If I continued to struggle against Lillian, she could kill me now and not even give him a chance to come after me.

“If you come after me, Daemon, I will kill her.” Lillian shoved the cold steel of the gun further into the side of my head as she yanked me toward the backseat of the vehicle.

“No!” I couldn’t help myself. My body refused to calmly climb inside like we were going on a nice shopping trip together. I yanked the pistol from my waistband, stuck it in Lillian’s side, and pulled the trigger.

Nothing happened. I was out of bullets and out of luck.

Lillian glanced down at the useless gun in my hand, and she cracked the butt of the gun against my skull. Pain radiated out from the crown of my head, down to my ears, and into my neck. I felt blood beginning to trickle into my hair.

Dazed, I had little choice but to let her continue to manhandle me. From inside the SUV, two powerful hands grabbed hold of my arms and tugged me inside. When I tried to look at the man who was pulling me into the backseat beside him, I couldn’t focus my eyes enough to even see his face. The world was spinning.

My head lolled to the side as he held me against him, my arms tangled up with his so I couldn’t fight. Lillian leaned out from behind the door to shout something else at Daemon. “We won, Daemon. I’m warning you right now. Follow me, and she will die. If I can kill my own husband, I have no problem killing his bitch daughter.”

“This isn’t over, Ma!” Daemon yelled. “You can’t win!”

Lillian’s laughter rang out as she climbed inside the vehicle and slammed the door. The scent of her floral perfume overwhelmed me to the point that I found myself gagging. Still struggling against her thug who had his meaty arms around me, I knew it would do me no good to try to break free. I didn’t need him to let me go so that I could escape at this point. I just needed to be able to suck in a lungful of air.

As the SUV whipped out of the warehouse, flying backward like the driver had experience as a stunt driver in one of those stupid action movies with all the car chases, Daemon jumped out from behind the stack of boxes he’d slid behind for cover. He opened fire on the SUV, shooting again and again, hitting his mark each time. But the bullets simply rolled off the front glass and hood, not so much as splintering the windshield. My only conclusion was that the vehicle had to be bulletproof.

I kept my eyes locked on Daemon’s face as we headed into the parking lot. There, the driver yanked the wheel to the side, sending us spinning around. I couldn’t turn my head to look at him anymore as the vehicle was thrown into drive and we shot out into the night.

“She’s not going anywhere now, Boris,” Lillian said, and the grip around me loosened enough that I could finally breathe.

Instinctively, I spun my head around so I could see out the back. The shootout continued, but Daemon had run out of the warehouse and was sprinting behind us. I raised a hand and mashed it to the back window, wishing I could reach him. He needed to go back before he got shot. He wasn’t as invincible as he thought.

As Boris tugged on my shoulder to get me to turn around, I ripped my eyes away from Daemon, but I knew this wasn’t over yet. No matter what Lillian’s plans were with me, he’d find a way to get me out safely. If she intended to use me as bait to draw him out, which was the only scheme that made logical sense, she’d find a way to do it. Unless she planned on keeping hostage forever, leverage to keep Daemon at bay.

What she wouldn’t be counting on was the fact that Daemon was always two steps ahead of everyone else. Whatever Lillian had planned, he’d find a way to pull the wool over her eyes, and I’d be safe in his arms again. Soon.

“What the fuck are you smiling at?” Lillian asked me, her eyes narrowed with hate.

I turned to look at her, not realizing I had been smiling. All I could think to say was, “You’ll see.”

CHAPTER32

DAEMON

Bullets whizzed past my head as I ducked down and tried to find a bit of shelter so I could continue to fire after the SUV taking Elisa away from me yet again.

Unlike when it was her father kidnapping her, this time, I knew she wasn’t in any immediate danger. I was finding out more about my mother at the moment, but one thing I did know was that she wasn’t an idiot. And she’d have to be very stupid to harm the one person that she could use as a bargaining chip.

Despite the risks, I found myself running out of that warehouse to get one last glimpse of Elisa’s beautiful face as she was dragged away. My brothers managed to cover me when I was exiting the warehouse, but then, I found myself standing outside with a couple of dozen enemy vehicles flying at me as they retreated to follow my mother. I got off a few shots but then had to run for cover to keep from taking a bullet. Hunkered down behind one of our own armored vehicles, I popped a few tires and hit one guy in the head that was leaning out to try to get a shot at me. Blood spurted across the back windows and his so-called friends opened the door to kick out his corpse.
