My face freezes as an icy chill blasts me.

Lawrence liked to make threats. No one knows that better than me. But this…

“He threatened tokillyou?” I whisper.

A car engine starts up outside. Della crosses over to the window and takes a careful peek out as the car pulls away from the house. Lawrence is gone, I hope. But will he stay away?

“He wasn’t happy with me,” Della says. “That’s why I went back as someone else. I got a fake ID, dyed my hair, and applied for a job in the gardens. I figured it would be safer than working in the house, and maybe I’d get a chance to see you.”

Tears burn behind my eyelids as I sigh. “Della… He could have killed you.”

She turns to face me. “I had to see you. And don’t look at me like that. You’d have done the same for me.”

Yes, I would.

I’d have broken in and slept in the attic, basement, or a bush in the garden if it meant I saw my sister. Even if it was for just a second.

“So you and Pack Ashe,” she says slowly, not even trying to hide her curiosity. “Are you going to be their omega?”

I try to look as if I haven’t been having that same thought for the last couple of days. “I’m Lawrence’s omega.”

“You won’t be if I reverse his limo over him,” Della mutters.

I fight back a smile. “Please don’t do that, Della.”

A hopeful note creeps into her voice. “Or I could poison his breakfast? He has poison ivy in his garden.”

My smile grows. It turns watery as hell, but it grows. “Don’t poison his breakfast, Della.”

Her expression turns thoughtful as she strokes her chin like a movie villain. “He keeps horses. I could release a couple and—” She mimes a horse rearing, rolls her eyes back, and sticks her tongue out of the corner of her mouth.

She surprises a laugh out of me and I lift my arms. “Come here.”

Smiling faintly, she crosses to over me and I draw her into a hug. I’m squeezing too hard, but I have my sister back and no hug could ever be better than when it’s with a person you thought you’d lost forever. “No killing him with a horse either. In fact, you should stay away.”

Far too soon, Della breaks away. She has a line between her brow, and I know I’m not going to like what she says next. “He either guessed, or maybe someone has told him that you’re here. Lawrence wouldn’t have come here himself otherwise.”

She’s right. He would never do something he couldn’t have a servant do for him.

“I agree,” Rune says, startling me.

He’s standing at the bedroom doorway, Kylian and Cian beside him. Rune and Cian both look calm, but Kylian?

There’s a tension pulling at his shoulders. He’s not calm, even if he’s smiling at me. “And he wouldn’t have left his father in the car outside waiting for him unless he suspects we’d do something to silence him.”

“I can find out what he knows,” Della says.

Reaching out, I snag her hand and squeeze. “No, Della. You can’t—”

“He doesn’t even know I work there. I’m in the garden, the stables, or the garage. There’s always gossip floating around, especially in the garage, so I can find out if he’s likely to come back here or if he only guessed you’d be here,” she says.

I take in the three men who moved fast enough to save me from Lawrence.

I can’t let them do it again.

“It won’t be an issue if I’m not here, Della,” I say. “And my leaving means you won’t have to put yourself at risk by going back to the house.”

Out of the corner of my eye, I catch Rune, Cian, and Kylian straighten.
