In our sated embrace I failed to see the owner walking in our direction.“Shit,” I jeer.“Lacey, baby, you have to get off me.We have company,” I say gravely.

“Shit,” she curses and quickly slides off my lap like she was reaching for something the whole time.I give her credit, she’s good at making incisive decisions as a cover story whether believable or not. Then she reaches under the table and squeezes my leg in warning.

“Antonio, it’s a pleasure to see you tonight. And who is this charming young lady?”His eyes shine when Lacey graces him with attention.

“Drake, this is Lacey, my girlfriend.Lacey, this is Drake, owner and good friend of mine. What brings you to the front of house?”I query.I’m now on high alert because this isn’t normal of Drake to be out here unless he’s asked for.

“I’m sorry to impose on your evening, but I was wondering if I could have a word with you?”He looks at Lacey apologetically.“I’m very sorry, Lacey.”

“It’s fine.Actually, why don’t you take a seat while I find the lady’s room.”She gestures to the other side of me where she wasn’t sitting. As she rises, Drake tries to decline her offer, but I know she needs the out more than he needs his time with me.

“Listen to the lady, Drake. She’s not all sweet and innocent.”I smirk as she gets up and saunters away from us, head held high like my cum isn’t running along the inside of her thigh.

Laughter fills my ears as Drake has his enjoyment.“You’re fucked, mate.I’ve never seen you so possessive, ever,” he titters.“The way you look at her…” His low whistle irks my mood.“Anyone would think you’re out to haveherfor dinner,” he jokes.

If only he knew.

“What do you want, Drake, that's so important to interrupt my evening?”I get straight to business.

“Your brother’s here.”His voice turns wary.“He wants to see you. He’s not taking no for an answer.”Drake’s whole demeanor changes and that’s when I know he’s being blackmailed.

“Motherfucker!”I slam my fist on the table.“Where is he?”I need to get this over and done with.He needs to go.

“He’s in my office upstairs,” he says, shrinking into the seat.

“Is he alone?”There’s no way I’m going in otherwise.

Drake nods and keeps his lips firm.

“I want you to stay here and wait for Lacey to come back. You’ll let no one, and I meanno oneclose enough to see her or speak to her.If a hair on her body is harmed, I’m coming back for you.”I point my finger and shoot a death glare in his direction.

“Understood,” he acknowledges.

For the first time in my life, I square my shoulders ready to stand up to the bully, the murderer, who thought he could take everything from me.

With each step I take toward Drake’s office a new current of adrenaline rips through my bloodstream. My hands are starving for blood. With one final breath, I push through the door into Drake’s office and stare down the stranger from the barrel of my Glock. The man sitting before me resembles nothing of the boy that used to torment me.He looks worn, haunted, and remorseful, but I’m not letting him fool me.The creases at the corners of his eyes hint to a hard life, yet the olive pigment remains the same.A reminder not to trust him.

“It’s been a long time, Tony.Put the gun away, brother.I’m not here to fight you,” Darius claims.

“Yeah, and what if I don’t give a fuck? What if I put one of these bullets through your skull for the life of haunting pain you served me.For every fucking time you lashed out at me for your own enjoyment? For the innocent soul you took. What the fuck then, Darius?”I don’t give him the benefit of my consuming anger.I keep my voice cold and steely. He doesn’t deserve anything from me.

“Then stop being a coward and shoot me.Though, I suggest keeping whatever idle threats toward me where they stand because as we speak, Jordannah is having a lovely little chat with your girl. She’s under strict instruction to take Miss Montgomery into her own custody if I don’t make it out of this room alive.”

Bastard.

“Mark my word, if you so much as touch Lacey, I’ll make you both suffer.I’ll keep you both alive and do thingsmy way,” I counter.

He ignores my threats and gestures in front of him.“Why don’t you pull up a chair so we can catch up on lost time.”

“Cut the bullshit.”I lower my gun but don’t put it away.“Tell me why you’re here threatening Drake and his business. You could have come to me any other way,” I bite out.

“And have your hounds put a bullet in me?I don’t think so.Besides, I’m not here to play games.I’m here to make things right.”He rises from his chair, resting his palms on the desk as he leans forward.“I spent a long time behind bars because of you.The least you can do is sit down, shut up, and listen.”

There’s the boy I knew. The sharpness in his tone is barely audible, but it’s there in his eyes.

I wait for the longest moment.Waiting for my subconscious to make the decision for me.My rational thoughts say end him here and now, but the nagging voice in the back of my brain is telling me the article could be true.Either way he mistakes my silence as an agreement.

“Are you pouring the whiskey, or am I?”he asks, holding out the bottle of single malt.
