“Well, didn’t Little Ingalls just get a whole lotWilder.” My cheeks heat at his reference to my childhood favorite TV show.

I shut him up with a kiss and tip my hips, grinding against him. “Damn, Kelsie. Your hips, your thighs, your curvy little body as it drives down on my cock is a fucking masterpiece to witness.” A growl rumbles through his throat and I don’t have time to laugh at the sound because his fingers dig into my hips. Max lifts me up and down as he pounds hard into me with the stamina that you’d dream of a personal trainer to uphold.

I lean back, placing my hands on his thighs, and cry out as another orgasm graces my body. He stills, filling me with himself. I fall forward and rest my forehead against his. My heart is thumping harder now than during any workout I have ever done. My vision takes a moment to collect itself from the literal stars it just saw.

“I’d say we licked our plates clean,” I whisper with a faint laugh.

“Best damn meal ever.” Max shoots me his boyish grin, and I tell myself I’m not melting into his charm.

I dismount him and head to my on-suite to use the bathroom. I should shower the sticky champagne and cum off my body, but exhaustion weighs heavily on me. I catch a glimpse of myself in my mirror while brushing my teeth and pause. This Kelsie is flushed, well marked, and glowing. With messy hair and heavy eyes, she looks empowered. Too bad this is the last of her. Can I remain confident without this gratification from now on?

I open my bathroom door, but my heart jumps to my throat. Max stands nude against the frame and steps toward me, pushing me back into my bathroom. I don’t know if my body can handle more of him right now.

“Come on.” He nods to my walk-in shower. “Just a quick rinse-off to rid the alcohol off of you.” A yawn pushes through my mouth as he leads me to the corner and pulls me against his chest since I’m half asleep. “Let me help wash you, sleepy girl.”

After we shower and I walk back into my bedroom, I notice Max changed the duvet before dragging me into the shower. I cuddle up next to him and, seconds later, I drift to sleep in his arms. And just as I requested, I woke up alone to the sun coming through my window.

Chapter 17

Max

“Mickey pancakes are the best!” James smiles down at his breakfast plate. “We ate these in Disneyland.”

“Thanks for the pancakes, Max. You’re the best cook in the world.” Mallory adds more syrup, hoping I won’t stop her since she handed out a compliment. I let it slide when picking my battles with a seven-year-old.

“After breakfast, go change into your swimsuits, and I can take you both up to the pool.” I flip the mushroom and goat cheese omelet for Kelsie’s breakfast and pour her an Earl Grey. “Try to be as quiet as you can be, okay?”

“Mom never sleeps this late.” Mallory glances at the large clock on the kitchen wall.

“That is because she has you two to take care of.” Just as I speak, a sleepy but well rested Kelsie emerges down the hall.

She yawns and gives a soft smile, approaching the kids. “Good morning, my loves.” She kisses each child on the head and looks at their plates. “Wow, Max spoiled you guys this morning. Is that Nutella on your fruit?”

“We will burn off our energy at the pool.” Mallory saves her ass. “Max said he will take us after we eat.” I shoot Mallory anI told you Mom wouldn’t approve of Nutella for breakfastkind of look.

“Your breakfast is ready too, Kels.” I scoop hash browns onto her plate and add a fruit dish next to her omelet. “I imagine you’ve worked up quite an appetite since last night.” I wink and walk our plates to the table. “I had planned to surprise you with breakfast in bed.”

“I think I’ve reached mysurprisequota for the rest of this year.” Kelsie’s eyes remain on her tea as I set the plate in front of her.

What does that mean?

“Can we go to the aquarium today?” James breaks the moment.

“No, let’s go to the dog park!” Mallory leans over the table with pleading eyes. “Mom, why can’t we have a puppy?”

“Because our life is busy enough, and I don’t need another responsibility to add,” Kelsie explains. “A puppy is demanding, time-consuming, and I don’t want to take care of more than my current responsibilities.” She takes a sip of her tea and glances around the kitchen, ignoring Mallory’s pout.

“I want something to take care of,” Mallory whines.

“You have a hamster that I have to keep reminding you to feed and clean.” Kelsie gives her a pointed look.

“Toodles isn’t the same as a dog. He lives in his cage.”

“Take Toodles to the dog park.” James leans toward his sister with a smile. “He has a ball to walk in.”

“No, baby, Toodles needs to stay here.” Kelsie laughs.

“Have a baby, then,” Mallory chimes with a smile. “I can dress her up and push her around in a stroller.” My coffee burns my nose as her request catches me off guard.
