Page 81 of Blurry Little Lines
“Seriously, what is so funny?”
“When you were pregnant with Laura, Mallory made the biggest wish of all time how Julien would one day move to Europe so she would never see him again.”
“And so, their feud will carry on.” I feel myself giggle. “Let’s keep quiet and allow her to enjoy this moment.”
A moment later, Mallory and her sisters venture to the front door to head out. Laura slips on her shoes and turns back to us. “Aren’t you guys coming to the game?”
“We don’t need to arrive that early.” I smile as Max leans down and kisses the top of my head. Mallory’s expected eye roll from our affection is absent, and her eyes soften. “We will meet you there.”
“Thank you.” Mallory looks directly at Max as she opens the door.
“For what?” he asks, puzzled.
“For stepping up and becoming the father I never thought I’d have.” Her eyes glass over. “You and mom were meant for each other.” She quickly ushers her younger sisters out the door, leaving before things get too mushy.
“We do make a great team.” I turn around, wrapping my arms around his neck, and his lips close the gap between us.

Never Till Now
Adam
“You are everything I hoped youwouldn’tbe.” A manicured hand connects with my cheek as a sting reverberates through my skin.
“You mean onlyone of usstayed true to our agreement?” I pipe back and watch her red lips part, but she’s never been one to admit when wrong. “Was I not clear about my terms from the beginning?”
“People change, Adam.” In hopes of diverting my attention or causing a scene in my family’s hotel lobby, her arms deliberately cross to perk up her ten-thousand-dollar breasts.
