PROLOGUE
Legend
I watch my dad actually walk into the room with my mother at his side and reflect on how much has changed in the past year. I went from being homeless to having more money than I could ever want. My brother sold his property in DC. Well, he kept the one in Solomons Island for him and Trinitee. But he’s moved here permanently. Once my parents’ house was ready, Kruze decided to sell the penthouse, more than twice what he bought it for after the upgrades Trinitee did on the property.
After that night at the club, Kruze proposed to Trinitee, and of course, she said yes, which is why I am currently at a wedding shower. They decided on a wedding shower instead of a bridal shower because they wanted to do it together. Trinitee’s parents came from Mexico, where they retired, along with Kruze’s coworkers from DC, along with Elijah from the club, and a few other friends and family.
I pop a shrimp in my mouth and moan from the flavors, and immediately make my way over to get some more. There are only a few left, and I take them all, piling them on my plate, when I hear the one voice I have been avoiding all night.
“Your ass is greedy as hell. How are you going to just stand there and take all the damn shrimp,” Shannon says, making me take a deep breath so I don’t cuss her irritating ass out.
“Don’t you have something else you could be doing than coming over here harassing me?
“I came over to get some more shrimp, and instead of getting some, all I see is your selfish ass taking all of them.”
“It was three shrimp. You act like I ate the whole platter.”
“You could have left one, damn.”
“Have the shrimp, Shannon. Damn, I’ll go buy some shrimp and cook my own. It’s not that damn serious,” I say, handing her the plate.
“You? You know how to cook?”
“Why is that so surprising?”
“I am always surprised when a primate can do advanced activities.”
“And I am always surprised when you pull up in your car instead of on your broom.”
“I know the fuck you didn’t just call me a witch!”
“So, you can call me an ape, but I can’t call you a witch? Ever since I met your ass, you have been a pain in my ass, and I have no idea why. I don’t know you, I haven’t done shit to you, but yet you still find every reason under the goddamn sun to have some shit to say to me. How about this, you take your ass to wherever Trinitee is and be her maid of honor and leave me the fuck alone. I can see why your miserable ass is single.”
“I know the fuck you didn’t! I am single because I want to be. If I want a man, I can have one whenever I want,” she says, and I grunt. Luckily no one is over by the food table, so we have not gotten anyone else’s attention with our heated argument.
“Right,” I tell her, preparing to walk away.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” she asks. “Are you trying to imply I can’t get and keep a man?”
“Your ass is a complete brat,” I tell her pulling the plate from her hand and dropping it on the table. “The reason your mean ass is single is because the slack-backed jelly-fished men you deal with are too weak to tame your ass,” I tell her, steadily backing her up in a corner with my body. “You like running that mouth and using that sharp tongue to cut a man’s ego up, but I can think of several other uses for that mouth and sharp tongue, and none of them involves you talking. Like choking on a ball gag as I fuck hard from behind or choking on my dick as I fuck your throat,” I say as her back hits the wall, and I grab her throat and lean down to kiss her. I take my time kissing her mouth, sucking on her tongue and full bottom lip before releasing her. She stands there, eyes wide, staring up at me, speechless. “Look at that. You do know how to shut the fuck up,” I tell her walking off and leaving her looking pissed off. Well, my work here is done.
CHAPTER1
Legend
“Do you have the ring?” Kruze asks me, making me roll my eyes because he has asked me that every five minutes.
“I had it five minutes ago, and I have it now,” I say, irritated, hoping the ceremony would hurry up and get started so he can chill out. The look he gives me makes me want to laugh in his face, but I think better of it. He is getting on my nerves, but I know if I poke the bear right now, he would probably punch me in the face.
“I knew we should have just eloped,” he says. “What could possibly be taking so long?” he asks no one in particular, and I refrain for the umpteenth time not to roll my eyes at him.
“If you guys would have eloped, it would have hurt our parents and her parents. This is a small price to pay to have the woman you love for the rest of your life,” I tell him, hoping I don’t act like that if I ever get married.
“True, true,” he says, bobbing his head in agreement.
“Instead of trying to rush this, take a breath and enjoy this day. It’ll only come once,” I tell him.
“When did you become so sensitive and philosophical?” he asks, amused.
