I needed my sister right now. She drove me nuts, but she had always been my sounding board. She also had more experience with boys. But it was late, and she’d probably be asleep or out with friends. With the thought I’d call her tomorrow morning, I took a few deep breaths and went back out to see my friends.
“Everything okay?” Becca asked as I reentered the kitchen.
“Yes,” I said, unwilling to share what was on my mind with my newfound friends.
“Good! We just started pouring over some bridal magazines, and I’d love to know what you like because I don’t have a clue.”
“I can help with that.” The rest of tonight was about Becca. All I had to do was focus on the task at hand, hope nobody asked me more about Jacob, and keep my thoughts from wandering. Easy.
But the first picture I saw of a man and a woman dressed in their suit and wedding dress made me immediately think of Jacob and me, wearing that suit and dress. I groaned. I was so done. Jacob was embedded in my mind now, and there was no kicking him out.
“Do you like that dress?” Becca asked, looking over when I groaned.
“Yes.” Thankfully, I actually did. “And I think those sleeves are in right now.”
“Yeah, I like them too,” Becca agreed.
“Yes, off-the-shoulder dresses with sleeves is all the rage,” Jill said. “That would be my go-to.”
“Well, hopefully Luc proposes soon,” Becca said.
Her face fell. “Oh, I don’t know.”
“He hasn’t proposed?” I asked. “Aren’t you two building a house together?”
“Oh . . .” Jill said, her mouth caught in a perfectO. “Uh, yes, but he hasn’t proposed.” She looked at the other two girls, and I wondered what they weren’t telling me. Our friendship was too early to ask personal questions, but I hoped to be in on whatever secrets they were keeping soon.

“You want to do what?”Bruno cried.
“I want us to have a contest to see who wins Millie. Whoever doesn’t win her swears to leave her alone for the rest of his life,” I said.
I had spent all night coming up with a plan, and this was the best one I had. I knew Bruno and me, neither one of us let anything go once we had our heart set on something, and we were talking about our mate here.
“Look, I’ve laid it all out,” I said, pulling out a piece of paper from my pocket.
“Of course, you have.”
I gave him a stare. “Do you want her or not?”
Bruno bared his teeth at me. “Of course, I do.”
“Then listen up and stop making snide comments.”
He grunted but otherwise stayed silent, so I continued, “I’ve written down a set of rules for us to court her. It’ll be quite obvious who is the right fit for her pretty quickly, so I don’t think we need to draw this out very long. We should each only need three consecutive days with her. We can’t say anything bad about each other while we’re with her, and—”
“You’ve thought this all through.”
I nodded before realizing he was being sarcastic. “At least one of us is thinking it through. And,”I continued with the rules, “we also agree to leave the other alone when they’re on their date.”
“Why don’t we just meet her somewhere and tell her what’s up?” Bruno demanded.
“Tell her what’s up?” I repeated. “Are you crazy? What are we going to tell her? That we’re both wolf shifters and you’re our mate, but you can only choose one of us?”
“Of course not! You’re the one who’s crazy, coming up with this stupid plan of courting her as a contest.”
“Well, can you think of anything better?” I shot back.
