But if it’s Reid and JD…
My hands tremble, but this time, it’s not just from the cold, it’s anticipation.
If they’ve come for us then they’ll free Alana. Even if they don’t get a chance to free me, that’ll be enough.
To know she’s safe and away from their clutches. I could die right there happy knowing that Reid and JD would protect her.
I almost laugh at the insanity of it all.
Not so long ago, Reid would have been up there with quite a long list of men I wouldn’t trust with my wife.
But now… I can’t think of anyone I’d want on her side more than him.
A loud screech of metal on metal rips through the air, making me wince as bright sunlight from outside floods the space.
I blink, barely able to make out what’s happening on the other side of the vast room as the sun blinds me.
Everything fades to nothing as two dark figures emerge in the brightness.
Alana’s loud sob is the last thing I hear.
You can stop fighting now.
They came for her.
Alana
The sound that rips from my throat as my vision clears isn’t human.
The relief I feel rushing through my system is beyond anything I’ve ever felt before.
“You came,” I breathe. It’s so quiet they’ll never hear it all the way over there, but it doesn’t matter.
They’re here. They came for us, just like Mav promised they would.
“Mav,” I call, desperate to hear his voice.
I want to turn around, to see the relief on his face, but I can’t rip my eyes away from Reid and JD.
They’re here.
They came.
It’s over.
“Mav?” I call again when he doesn’t respond.
“Dove,” JD calls before he takes off running toward me. “Fuck, baby.” His voice is rough, thick with emotion as he runs his eyes over me.
Shame threatens to burn through me at the position I’m in, but the relief is too strong.
“I’m okay,” I whimper. “I’m okay. Go to Mav, he—”
“Holy fuck,” Reid barks, clearly finding my husband chained up like an unwanted dog in the corner of the room.
“Go to him, please,” I beg. “Please.” The word is swallowed by a loud sob.
“It’s okay, Dove. We’re here. We’re going to get you both out.”
