I’m not just doing it for me. It’s for her too.

And for our mother.

I might have found my sister, but I still don't have the truth about our mom. I gave up hope of her being out there somewhere years ago. Dad wouldn’t have risked her coming to rescue us from his twisted clutches. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want the truth.

JD pulls his cell from his pocket and opens up the app that allows him to see inside the cells.

Butterflies flutter in my lower belly as I think about all the things he watched me do down there not so long ago, but they’re soon wiped away when the image of my little sister curled up on the cot bed—the only thing in the room she was placed in—appears on the screen.

I hate that she’s been locked up down there. But watching her freak out and hurt herself earlier tore me to pieces.

She’s safer down there. She can’t get into any trouble, or find anything to cause herself damage.

She might not think she can break this addiction, but we’re going to do everything in our power to make sure she does.

“Okay good,” I say, rolling my shoulders back and pulling my mask on.

Do I want to go out there with a gun and the intention of hurting someone? No, not really. The thought fucking terrifies me.

But ending my father… that’s an entirely different thought.

“I’m ready,” I state before JD and Mav both push the car doors open and step out.

As I climb out of the car, Griff emerges from a dark alleyway.

“Ready, partner?” he teases.

“I hope you can keep up,” I shoot back.

He smirks, shaking his head.

“You sure about this?” Mav asks one last time.

“Yep.”

Each of them give me a kiss, but it’s Reid’s that lingers the longest. “Fucking love the idea of you being the Bonnie to my Clyde, Pet,” he confesses quietly in my ear.

“Let’s get this motherfucker back to your underground playground and then we’ll see what we’re really made of, huh?”

“Damn,” he mutters, finally taking a step back.

“You guys go through the front. Seventh floor, apartment number ten. I’ll take these guys up the fire escape and sneak in through the side.”

“Anyone would think you know this building well,” JD teases.

“Busted it a time or two, yeah.”

“Well, then. Let’s make this your most successful visit yet,” Reid says confidently before marching forward, not bothering to check to see if JD and Mav are on his tail—which they are of course.

“You’ve got yourself a dangerous bunch of boyfriends there,” Brody muses as the three of us watch them go.

“Jealous?” I ask lightly.

His lip part to argue, but I don’t give a shit about his response. Instead, I spin on my heels and march in the direction Griff appeared from, assuming that’s where we’re going.

Griff chuckles as he jogs up beside me.

“You’re something else, kid,” he says. “You remind me of my little sister.”
