“I don’t. I was going to give it to Sam, but since you’re here.” JoJo smiled as she ripped the paper off her little tablet and handed it to him.

“I’ll check this out and take care of it.” Nevada touched the brim of his hat, walked to his SUV, and drove off.

“Let’s get inside, darlin’. I’ll get the packages in the morning.”

JoJo sat in Brett’s Tahoe as they drove to Helena for Thanksgiving. It was the day before, but the traffic was light.

“It’s a beautiful day,” she said as she gazed out the windshield.

“Yes, but snow is forecasted tonight.”

“I love snow.”

“We’ll go horseback riding, and I’ll show you the ranch.”

“I’d love to see it.”

Nothing more was mentioned about Rich. Nevada told them he talked to him, but Rich said his friend had his truck. Nevada said he didn’t believe it but couldn’t prove it. He spoke to the person supposedly driving it, and the guy said it wasn’t him. It was a ‘he said, he said’ situation.

“I hope Nevada gets him.”

“He will. He seems determined.”

“He used to work for the MDOL.”

“Montana Department of Livestock?”

“Yes. I think Courtney said he worked there for twelve years. It’s a long story, but he got shot and almost died because he wasn’t wearing his protective vest. He knew they were going to fire him, so he quit. Sam hired him right after he met him. Courtney said Nevada loves it.”

“I’m sure Sam is glad he hired him, too. He’s damn good at it.”

“They’re all good at their job.” She laughed. “All four of them.”

Brett chuckled. “Small town.”

“Yes.”

They rode in silence until they reached the outskirts of Helena, and Brett pulled onto a blacktop road. She sat up as he drove to the house. She gasped when she saw the large white farmhouse.

“Oh, my. It’s gorgeous.”

“I love this place.”

“I can see why.”

Once he parked, he looked at her.

“Ready?”

JoJo took a deep breath, blew it out, and nodded.

“I think so.”

“They’ll love you as I do.”

JoJo smiled, opened the door, stepped from the truck, and met Brett at the front of it. She heard the back door open and saw a tall man standing on the porch. He had to be Brett’s father, since they resembled each other.
