“Well, do you want fancy, or do you want casual?”
“Fancy with you,” he murmured.
Seriously, she wanted to attack the man.
“Oh. There’s the Hartland restaurant. It’s fancy or casual. Fantastic food, but you’ll need a reservation, and I can almost guarantee you won’t get us in.”
“Popular, huh?”
“Very. What time? I’ll make the reservation.”
“You just said we wouldn’t get in.” He frowned at her.
“I saidyouwouldn’t get us in. I will.” JoJo smiled.
“Okay. I won’t askhowyou’ll get us in, but I can pick you up at six.”
“All right. I’ll see you Friday evening.”
“I don’t have to wear a suit, do I?” He grimaced.
“No, though you could. People wear anything they want.” She laughed.
“Okay, JoJo. I’ll see you Friday.” He stared into her eyes. “Don’t break my heart by canceling.”
“I won’t. I’m sorry, but I have to get back to work. I’ll see you Friday.”
He leaned forward and whispered in her ear.
“Wear your hair down, please.” He touched her ponytail. “I like this, but I’d love to see it down.”
“All right. I’ll see you then.”
He touched the brim of his hat and smiled.
“Looking forward to it.” He looked over her shoulder. “Are you ready, Nevada?”
Nevada chuckled. “Just waiting for you.”
The men left the bakery, and JoJo blew out a sigh.
“That is one fine-looking man,” Courtney said.
“Yes, he is.” JoJo shook her head. “I’m heading for a heartache. I just know it.”
“You don’t know that for sure. Besides, you told me to go for it with Nevada, and look how that turned out.”
“I know, but that doesn’t happen all the time.”
“No, but it can happen to anyone. Take a chance. We all have.”
JoJo sighed. She didn’t have luck at finding the right man, and Brett Watkins could take her heart, smash it to smithereens, and make her want to crawl into a hole. Some men knew the right things to say to get a woman’s attention. Then, once they did, they were on to the next conquest.
She hoped Brett wasn’t like that because she liked him and wanted to see him. She glanced at Courtney.
“Fine, but I’ll cut his balls off if he breaks my heart.”
Courtney and Sloane laughed.
