“I swear, Kelly, he won’t get to you.”

“I’m not worried about that right now. I’m worried about you.”

“I’ll be fine.” He stepped back and rubbed a hand over his face.

“Fine? You do remember what that stands for right?”

“Yeah OK, so maybe I’m not fine. I’m angry, frustrated and feeling guilty as hell.”

She reached for his hand. “Let’s go home.”

“No. I need to be here. We need to find him.”

“We will find him. Sam is on it, your team are here and will do everything they can to assist. FBI are working on it too. Let them all do their jobs. You need to step away, just for a little bit. This is a huge shock.”

He looked at her, his eyes red and full of so much pain.

“For me, Dex. Please. Let’s go home. Sam is never going to let you lead the team in this state.”

Dex sighed. “OK. Let’s get out of here, just for an hour or so.”

AFTER SAM ASSURED Dex he would call if they got any news, he let Kelly drive him home. Snuggled with her on the sofa, he tried to comprehend this. Pops had been murdered. It also seemed the man responsible likely worked for Lazir. That he might come after Kelly next sent a chill down Dex’s spine.

The feel of her body next to his set his skin on fire. What he wouldn’t give to lose himself in her right now. Forget about the threats, the op, his dad, Saleem, Khalini, Lazir... Fuck. Just forget it all for a little while. It was too soon, he knew that. He pulled her closer though, enjoying the feel of her body pressed against his. The appreciative sound she made went straight to his cock, which was growing harder by the second. He leaned his head back, closing his eyes.

“Can I get you anything?” she asked.

“No. I got all I need right here.” He stroked his hand up and down her back.

She tilted her head up and he opened his eyes to meet her gaze.

“I wish I could make this better for you,” she said softly.

“You are, just by being here.”

Fuck, he wanted her. Yes, he’d just had shocking news, he was grieving all over again, it wasn’t the right time but damn he wanted her. It was selfish he knew, but he wanted to lose himself in her, anything to block out the reality that was his life right now.

“I want to kiss you,” he said, his eyes never leaving hers.

She straightened a little, to see him better he supposed, then she nodded. Her eyes were so full of love, of trust. The fact that she was willing to try this again so soon made his heart swell. Cupping her face, he brought his lips to hers, slowly, gently. He took his time, enjoying the feel of her. She kissed him back just as tenderly.

“If you want me to stop, just tell me,” he whispered.

“I don’t want you to stop.” Her hands moved over his back, sending little electric shocks through him. She opened to him, and his tongue entwined with hers as she melted in his arms.

For several minutes they stayed just like that, just kissing, exploring each other's mouths, holding each other. Just when he thought his cock was going to explode, she pulled back, ran a finger down his cheek, and then she stood up, holding out her hand. He took it and he let her lead him up to the bedroom.

Inside his room, she turned to face him and, before he could say anything, she kissed him again. He lost himself in the kiss, devouring her mouth, sucking her lips, her tongue. His hands slipped into her hair as she clutched his shoulders.

Kissing down her neck, he found her sweet spot, between neck and shoulder, and nuzzled, nipped, and licked. She gasped at his touch, her fingernails raked up and down his back, driving him crazy. He wanted this so bad. Wanted to throw her on the bed and take her, block out everything else. His big head kicked into gear though, and he stopped. They were both breathing heavily and the desire in her eyes almost tipped him over the edge. He stepped back.

“Babe, I want you more than anything, but maybe this is too soon.”

She stepped toward him, placing her palms on his chest. “I want this, Dex. But I understand if you want to wait, considering what you just learned.”

Jesus, she was worried about his feelings? “I would give anything to not think about that for a while.”

Her hands moved down to the bottom of his shirt and pulled it from his jeans. “So would I. So let's not think about it together.”
