“She hurt a lot of people with what she did, and a lot worse could have happened. But you’re right, she sacrificed herself to save you. You shouldn’t doubt that she cared about you, even with what she did.”

I walked over to her so that I could look her in the eyes.

“There is good and bad in all of us. I used to think of the world in black and white. But there are all sorts of shades of gray out there. She screwed up big, but she was also your friend. Don’t let the bad that she did, taint your memories of the good.”

Lucy nodded, then turned aside and discreetly blinked her tears back. “I’ll try. But I don’t wanna think about it anymore for a couple days.” She straightened, crossed her arms, and took a deep breath. “So what’s that dress for?”

She spotted the blue satin dress I’d laid out on the bed to wear that evening and beelined over to it, sounding a bit more like herself

“Oh, that’s for tonight. I’m, um, going toLaVillettafor dinner.” I hedged.

Paul and I hadn’t really discussed what or when to tell people that we were seeing each other. Although I guess the word would get around after we were spotted at dinner together tonight.

“Who are you going with, Angelo?” Her eyes narrowed. “Because I heard him talking to Mom and Dad earlier and it sounded like they were all going to have an early dinner meeting with Alec about whatever the fuck they were working on when they were out of town.”

I glanced away, and felt my cheeks get heated.

Lucy gasped dramatically, then squealed.

“Oh my god! It’s freaking Paul, isn’t it?! I knew it! I fucking knew it!”

“If I say yes, will you please stop screaming at the top of your lungs?” I winced.

“Fine. Sorry. But I totally called it. I knew you two had the hots for each other. Hmph. People should listen to me more.” She tossed her hair back and gave me a pointed look.

As awkward as this conversation made me feel, I had to admit it was nice to hear Lucy sounding a little bit more like her normal self again I had to admit.

“Okay, okay, you called it,” I admitted.

“I called what?” Lucy crossed her arms across her chest, bracelets jangling, and looked at me smugly.

“Jesus, you’re demanding! Paul and I are…together. Happy now?”

I couldn’t help the smile that crept across my face. It felt good to say it out loud.

“Yup! Sure am!”

She bounced over to the bed and lifted up the dress and inspected it.

“This is going to make your tits look aaaaa-mazing!” she commented as she fingered the delicate beading across the top of the strapless dress.

“Great. I was absolutely choosing that dress for proper tit display.”

“Perfect! You’re going to look so hot!” My sarcasm had gone completely over her head. “When do you have to start getting ready? Can I do your hair?”

“I need to get ready now, and yes you can do my hair as long as you don’t make me look like a crazy person, okay?”

She nodded and clapped her hands together.

“You won’t be sorry, I swear! I’m going to go get some stuff and I’ll be right back!”

She bounded back out of the room and I smiled at her enthusiasm. A distraction would be good for her.

I walked over to where she had placed the dress back on my bed. It was going to show a lot of cleavage, that’s for sure. But something told me that Paul wouldn’t mind.
