I thought I had made you up when you connected with me in my slumber. An angel sent to haunt my dreams. You made me want things I had long thought impossible.

I’m not sure why you would want a smart-ass druid with zero cooking skills, who can’t sit still for five minutes, but each to his own, I guess.

You are much more than that.

Her breath stuttered in her chest. Not anymore. She wasn’t sure how long she slipped into unconsciousness, but his voice roused her from her sleep.

Talk to me, little fox. Tell me what our life would’ve been like if I had found you in time. Would you have shared your life with me? Your love? Your body?

A tear formed in the corner of her eye, but she squeezed her eyes tight so it wouldn’t fall. She’d seen the way Legion looked at Mara. She was the center of his universe and he would move heaven and earth to stand by her side. What was that kind of love like? She couldn’t remember feeling safe anymore, let alone having a pillar of strength standing beside her. I wish I could have been what you wanted. The sadness in his voice hurt more than the crushed bone in her body.

You are.

I’m not.She was silent for some time before he spoke again.

Talk to me, little fox. It calms me to hear your voice.

She had heard of a death rattle, but she never experienced it. Her lungs felt like they were on fire as they struggled to take the smallest gasp of air.I am sorry I failed.

You did not fail. You are a dragon’s mate, and our destiny is entwined, even if this is the end.

She would’ve smiled if she could. Knowing that someone wanted you, despite your mistakes was comforting in her last moments. She needed to give him something. A small piece of herself that she never shared with anyone. We had a dragon sculpture in the shop. If was so beautiful, it seemed real. I was constantly picking it up and Mom was continually telling me to put it back. I could never understand why no one bought it. Now I realized it was spelled. I would show it to people and they would look away, not seeing the beauty that I did.

That sculpture is a perfect likeness of Legion. I have seen it and it is remarkable. It contained your sister’s circle, so the druids spelled it to avert attention from any human. Your innate magic was immune to this ward.

I’m sorry I never got to see you fly. That would have been an experience I enjoyed.

He growled in her mind as she struggled to breathe.Do not forsake me, Alana. Hang on until I can get to you.

I didn’t forsake you. I made a mistake I could never atone for. Choose another.

No!He screamed in her mind as she lost the connection to her blue dragon and her mind reached for the comfort of the darkness.

CHAPTER2

Alana felt warm for the first time in years. She snuggled deeper into the comfort of her bed before she swallowed dirt in her throat. The air was cold and damp as she inhaled deeply.

Her eyes snapped open, and for a moment, she thought she was dreaming. The cave was just as it had been before she fell from the cliff, but the four-poster bed and thick down quilt she lay on was distinctly out of place in the ruined tunnel. “What the fu...”

“I healed you.”

She turned over on the bed to find the sexy dragon from her mind, lying beside her. He was over six feet with blue eyes and tanned skin. Since she knew he was a blue, his resemblance to Draco made her wonder if they shared the same parents.

“No. Draco and I are not related by blood, but he is my brother in every sense of the word.”

“Okay.” While her mind was usually quick and she could typically figure out her next move within seconds of her last one, his sexy toned body was messing with her processing ability. She had been speaking to him for years, but meeting him in person was never supposed to happen. She expected him to be sexy, but having the urge to rip someone’s clothes off was new to her.

He smiled, and she felt her heart flutter. “I assure you, the feeling is mutual.”

“Stop reading my mind,” she snapped.

He arched an eyebrow, stretching out on the bed with confidence. “We are mates Alana. Our minds have been tuning to one another since before I woke from the caves. If you remember, you reached out to me.”

“You know that was an accident. I didn’t know what I was doing,” she whispered.

“I am aware, but I cannot block the connection that you started. That would be like asking me to cut off one of my wings.”

She couldn’t deny his claims. She’d been lonely and afraid for so long, cursing her magic and the destiny laid before her. “Just ignore my libido.” She moved her hand in a circular motion. “I don’t have time for... all that.”
