“I just banged my knee and scuffed my palms when we went down hard on the cement. I’ll be fine.”
“Okay, let me know if you need an ice pack for your knee at all. Once you’re washed up, I’ll show you to the nurses’ station where we can start getting his information. I’m Allison, so if you have any questions, you can let me know.”
“Is there any chance my fiancée’s can be in the same room? Ryan and Nick Gilbert?”
She gives me a surprised look and then laughs. “Damn, girl! Good for you. I’ll see what I can do for you when they go upstairs for observation, but I can tell you that while they’re here in the ER, we won’t be able to accommodate that, the rooms are too small to fit two beds.”
I nod, half expecting that, but still wanting to try.
“Is there any chance I could also be kept up to date on my friend, Ethan Mills? He was also shot. They’re all in the same MC, Steel Archangel’s.”
She looks around before stepping in close. “I’ll see what I can do since you aren’t family. If I can’t, I’ll send Luke to come by for a visit.”
I stare at her for a minute as I scrub my hands and arms before I remember Patch’s real name is Luke Morgan. He said most people in the ER know he’s in the club and that his road name is Patch, but he wanted everyone to know his name if they got stuck with a new person.
“Sorry, I forgot that’s what Patch’s real name was. I’m Levi Wallace, by the way.”
“No worries. Nice to meet you, Levi, though I wish it were under better circumstances. I think Luke got pulled in with your man. Something about helping his president?”
“Ryan, or Thor as that’s his road name, is the President of the MC. His brother, Nick or Dragon to the club is their Enforcer, and Ethan just started prospecting with them last week.”
“Damn, shot after only being there a week. That’s a rough start.”
“Yeah, it is.”
Drying my hands off, I follow along behind her as that thought sinks in. I hope Ethan doesn’t change his mind about still prospecting. I can tell he already loves being in the club.
After giving the nurse Ryan and Nick’s insurance information, they give me some paperwork to fill out, but the damn pen starts shaking in my hand. No matter how much I try to calm down, I just can’t seem to.
Someone takes the pen out of my hand.
“I got this, Levi,” Phoenix says as he pulls me in for a quick hug.
“Thank you, Phoenix.”
He kisses the top of my head before he pulls back and starts filling out the paperwork for me.
Arms surround me, and I recognize Jax’s cologne. I sink into his embrace before a thought hits me.
“Did anyone call Ethan’s parents?”
“Yeah, Alexei’s on the phone with them now.”
“Shit, did you call Nikki? I bet they heard everything.”
He sighed and nodded. “Yeah, they know. and I promised I’d give her updates on everyone. They all went into lockdown as soon as they realized it was gunshots.”
Thankful that they’re alright, all I can do is nod as feel myself drifting. I tune out everyone talking, not able to concentrate and trusting Jax to have my back.
After a few minutes, we’re shown to the waiting room, which is overflowing with a sea of leather that has become my family. There are a few other families in here and they’re warily watching us.
Seeing us approach, we’re instantly bombarded with questions. Thankfully, Phoenix and Jax take over, answering what they can. I’m so close to tears again that if I had to repeat what happened, I’m sure I’d be a blubbering mess.
Sasha pulls me into a hug, then quickly pulls away, looking me over.
“You’re not hurt, are you?”
“No, it’s not my blood. They both shielded me from the shots.”
